THE FORT BRAGG STABLES AT SMITH LAKE PRESENT THE FIRST ANNUAL TEAM TRAIL AND PACE EVENT Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 1000 ** You do not have to go through any "checkpoints" to get to this part of the base! The Smith Lake stables are located on the acreage surrounding the recreation area, and open to the public ** $25.00 PER RIDER, PRE- REGISTRATION IS REQUESTED BY 12 NOON, NOV 20, 2009. REGISTRATION ALSO AVAILABLE DAY OF EVENT. ******Pre-registration by deadline includes a commemorative keepsake and a chuck wagon style meal ****** This event includes a paced trail ride through the acreage surrounding the Smith Lake Recreation area on Fort Bragg, a freestyle team drill competition in the arena, and a chuck wagon style meal. Meal and commemorative keepsake requires pre-registration fee. Meal alone (or as a late add) is $6.00 per person. AWARDS GIVEN IN THE FOLLOWING FOUR CATEGORIES (ALL AWARDS TO 6th PLACE) 1. IDEAL TEAM TRAIL PACE (TIMED) 2. TEAM EQUITATION/HORSEMANSHIP JUDGED BY THE SPOTTERS ON TRAIL) 3. TEAM TURNOUT (JUDGED) 4. TEAM DRILL (JUDGED) TEAM TRAIL / PACE : The teams will leave the starting point at prescheduled times. The teams coming closest to the ideal pre-determined pace time will be the winners. The ideal pace time is pre-determined to include walk, trot/jog and minimal cantering. Galloping is not allowed. There will be check points throughout the course. The course will be marked. Equitation/Horsemanship judges will be watching too, for an entire separate set of ribbons! TEAM DRILLS: (OPTIONAL TO COMPETE IN THIS) Team drills include a 1-3 minute freestyle riding drill in the arena; teams may use music. Drills must include gaits at the walk; jog or trot. Team drills are judged on overall appearance, cadence, equitation, and turnout. TEAM TURNOUT: Teams will be judged on overall correct presentation of horse and rider based on their discipline: appearance; use of team colors, presentation, grooming; mane and tails. Be creative. Bling is allowed. Tack need not match. Horses need not match. RULES All riders under 18 required to wear helmets. Teams include riders of 2-4 members. Juniors (under 18) are encouraged to ride, but there must be an adult on the team. All riders will carry emergency information . Rain date: pre-registration is honored for raindate of Sunday Dec 13, 2009. No trail dogs. No stallions. No galloping.
