Since I'm at home for another day getting over swine flu, I thought I'd share some pictures from the Orange County Hunt Team Chase Event last Sunday. It is held at Old Whitewood Farm in The Plains, VA, and is a 4.5 mile course over 23 fences, ranging from 3' to 3'6" in height, and you are to go at a hunting pace to try to match the Optimum Time (unknown until the end). The fences are mainly event-type log jumps, split rail fences, coops, and stone walls. Teams are 3-4 people. We won Best Turned Out Team for the 3rd year in a row. The overall Grand Champion Hunter was Nina Fout (who I'm sure most of you have heard of! ).George on Victor: http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58449&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58452&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58369&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58539&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58540&zoom=yes Me on Kalliopy: http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58248&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58368&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58537&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58538&zoom=yes Our teammate, Tracey on Clementine: http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58598&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58599&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58407&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58365&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58533&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58534&zoom=yes Our teammate, Anne on Abraham: http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58307&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58448&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58366&zoom=yes http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58536&zoom=yes Nina as Grand Champion: http://judyleonardphotography.net/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=58624&zoom=yes |

LMAO, V! George still can't believe he's riding a horse that color. I thought I'd have to spray paint Victor's body brown to get him on him at first! But he has come to truly appreciate him, because he is SO easy to ride and do the hunters--just set the pace, close leg, float the reins, and go! He'll find the spot, jump perfectly, and make the strides. Heck, the horse even HUNTS in a happy mouth!Poor Victor was a bit shell-shocked for the first 3 fences on Sunday, though, as they were totally event jumps set out in the open, going away from everyone. He was like, "Why am I DOING this???" but then got the hang of it. All he's really been is a show hunter, and some foxhunting. We'll probably take him event-type cross-country schooling so he can understand the process a bit better. |

That looks like SUCH a blast. And all the horses on your team jump great and look like such darlings. That Clemintine has the sweetest expression. Hope you're feeling better soon and that your hubby doesn't get it too.

They work for me?! I can summarize for ya'-- impeccable (not a hair outta place) rider turnout, beautiful braids, and lots of the cleanest bling I've ever seen. I don't see how anyone can rival D for the best turnout award when she has THAT MUCH white and it's THAT CLEAN.

Aww, shucks... Luckily they aren't *too* much of pigs, but they still end up getting a LOT of baths to be that color. We have really raised the standard for the turn-out judging, though, from when we first started doing it. Almost all the teams at least had their manes braided, and there were a lot of top hats and tails. But we were the only team with full (and 100% correct) appointments. Every other team had some major thing "wrong", such as wearing saddle pads, having their stirrup iron pads in, not having 3-fold girths, etc. ----- Congrats on Somerset finally being able to start doing turnout! Jolie has had her 3rd (and hopefully final) shockwave treatment. She goes in for her soundness check and re-ultrasound on Nov. 20th, and that will determine whether she need more stall rest, or whether she can start back to work lightly. Zeda has been back in work for a few weeks now. I even took her hunting last Saturday (first time since 2x Sept '08). I was just going to hilltop her, but it was a VERY small first field, and a pretty good fixture, so I thought, "What the heck?". She was EXCELLENT--just trotted her first coop, and lightly cantered the rest, was incredibly handy in the woods, did numerous stream crossings (even where water was up to my feet!), did ditches, etc. It was quite a day! I think she may turn out to be even a better field hunter than her half-brother, Quest, which I didn't think I'd find. Their breeder finds it all quite hysterical. |
