So with Duke just around the corner at AttiMcFatti's least favorite ring, I was curious if others have horse shows that the like to do at facilities their horses *hate*? There's always so much noise going on in that indoor and Atti is just certain he needs to *save* me from something in that ring....he's not sure what, but something in that ring is going to get us if he doesn't spook and whirl. :teehee:

My horse hates being at home, go figure. She is pretty good most of the time off the farm, but man riding her at home is a total pita.

Turns out Elf isn't a fan of our outdoor ring. :sigh: I've been riding him in the covered since the middle of Sept and things have been wonderful. I decided to ride him outside yesterday and let's just say it was less than wonderful and I went back into the covered and he immediately went back to being a good boy. Ugh.

Not a show ring... but I am really terrified that if I ride my horses in the dressage ring at our barn, I'll cause them to have soft tissue injuries. That ring is stone dust, our jumping ring is grass, our indoor is rubber chips. NO ONE ELSE on the property has ever had a soft tissue injury/problem as a result of the indoor but I am scared of it anyway. People ride in it all the time. I refuse. It just SEEMS deep. Even if it's not, something about it just seems too deep to me. I only go there when I absolutely MUST.

Back when my retired horse was still showing, he hated Culpeper. Who could blame him. For some reason the main schooling area made him crazy and he hated the footing in the main hunter ring. I finally just stopped taking him there because it was a waste of time and money.

My horse hates showing at home as well. Changing our rings around and setting up for a show just blows his little mind. Add a few tents, a bunch of trailers and I give up. :o :brickwall:

AHA. I see. Well I guess that saves you quite a bit of time :teehee:

Chaz is fine just being ridden at home. It's when I change everything up for a show that he has anxiety issues :psycho: :o

I can take her anywhere, and she is basically perfect, at least for her. Much better things to do at home then pay attention. The ONLY horse Ive ever known that has to be lunged at home to ride, but not at shows. :mallet:

Can you blame him? My boyfriend is from PA- I am from MD- and before dating him I had never been to an Our Farm show. That first winter I went to every one to help him with his two ponies and to cheer on his sister in the juniors. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN. blech. *edited for spelling*

The indoor at the Dream Park, NJ has this weird ticking ventilation system. There's also a big fan on one end of the ring that makes a louder air/ticking sound. Our horses are pretty quiet and they were slightly freaked out for the first 5 minutes.

Some people don't like the kennels/dogs at Woodedge but I swear, I don't even HEAR them?!

Oh my goodness -- I haven't shown at Woodedge since my pony days in the mid-70s! I'm glad to know it's still there. I always liked that show. In addition to a main ring and smaller ring, it had an enormous outside course, consisting of jumps set in a portion of big field. Wishful thinking probably, but does it still have the TOC??

:( Now there are three tings but unless the outside course is in a pasture or hidden behind the barns, I don't think it's there. I have never seen it used at a show, if it still exists. The jumper ring does have some fun, smallish terrain stuff in it-- like a grob. I wonder if they built the jumper ring where the old outside course was?
