I just thought I would share a fun training situation I had today.

I decided that today was the day to introduce my Mother's young Friesian to water. He is not the bravest fellow and does much better in the pair I usually drive him in. But I thought that introducing him to water as a single was a safer way to go. We approached the creek crossing and he got REALLY tall. :o Benjamin attached the long line we brought along to his caveson and I unhooked him. Since this little exercise was my idea I volunteered to be the one to walk in to the water. With his toes at the very edge of the water and snorting up a storm I wondered how this was going to go, just how wet was I going to get? Well, I guess Archie Moore got tired of waiting on the carriage (some of you know Archie Moore the Boxer). He hopped off the carriage and trotted by us right in to the stream to get a drink. I could literally see the wheels turning now.... if Archie could do it so could he! :cheer: He just walked right in and followed Archie Moore through the creek to the other side. We turned around and he marched right through again. We rehooked him and he went right through the creek both directions! Success!  Of course my feet were numb by that point from the very crisp mountain stream!

So....if your driving horse has a dog buddy make great use of said buddy as a training tool!

Oh, and we did get Archie back on the carriage before we headed off on our way.

Tomorrow the pair goes to the creek! Of course the other guy is the brave one and he has no problem with water :teehee: .

That's awesome. Good boy Archie.

I had the same situation, once. When I first got Bubba he had never crossed water and all I was trying to do was to get him to step in a puddle. Well, I spent the better part of an hour coaxing, fighting and cajoling him to try to get him in the puddle. I finally got smart and sent the hubby to the barn for our Cricket pony who loves water and had him lead him into the puddle. The minute Bubba saw him pawing and splashing around he walked right in. Now he loves water.

I had forgotten that a good example is always the way to go.
