Ty, though pony of my dreams, is a bridle eater . He is super mouthy and will grab anything he can-brushes, gloves, buckets etc. So he grabbed my really nice Crosby reins while i was sitting on him the other day and put a huge bite mark in them. I would like to replace this bridle but wanted some opinions on what bridles are quality for under $100. He can't do padding because his face is super fine. Our local stores don't carry much and what htey have is overpriced and junk. Edited by Jersey Fresh, Jul 28 2009, 05:50 AM.

Have a look at HDR Pro bridles. I have two, the HDR Pro fancy-stitched raised and the HDR Pro event. I think they are pretty good quality for the money, and the leather softens up quite nicely if you take decent care of it. I take very good care of my tack and both my bridles are like butter. The only gripes I have are with the HDR fancy stitched ... the oakbark dye slightly discolored my stitching after I got caught in a rainstorm, and the noseband on that bridle is *very* generously sized, lol. I haven't had either issue with the HDR Pro event bridle; the havana dye hasn't bled at all and the noseband is a more normal length. I've not heard such good things about the HDR Advantage line, which is priced ~$65. Bobby's bridles are also supposed to be good value. I've seen a few in person that looked very nice, but I don't know what model they were. Er, not to self-promote or anything, but my fancy-stitched raised HDR bridle is looking for a new home. It's a cob, oakbark, no padding. Fine for schooling but due to discoloration of stitching I wouldn't do anything more than a schooling show with it. I'm only selling it because my mare is a dark bay and I really don't care for tack that's lighter than my horse. (Yes, I know that's silly.) |

Hey thanks for the replies. I think Ty needs a full size, he has a refined head but its definately not a cob. Anyone have/have seen in person the smartpak plymouth bridles? I'll look at the HDRs too... |

If you are not in a hurry.... I may have something. I'm in the process of putting the tackroom back together after putting in a new floor.... so it may take a week to see what I have. I will admit I have found a lot of stuff with price tags still on it.... and saw a few bridles that I did not know I had. I plan on posting some of the stuff for sale on this board in the next week. |

LBB-ok I will wait! Renn-thanks, I think thats the route I may go it LBB doesnt have anything. He is a bridle eater so for $50 I won't feel bad if it gets destroyed. I just didn't want something that was going to make me cringe everytime I put it on him! |
