I'm taking a reining lesson on Sunday. (why? why not! Turns out there's a reputable reining trainer literally in my backyard.)

Are my paddock boots ok for this, or should I find some proper cowboy boots to borrow??

And Mlle Bria will be staying home for this. 16.3 of mostly-broke, slightly klutzy baby WB is not what I want to take a reining lesson on :teehee:

No idea about the footwear, but I'm totally jealous. I've always wanted to try reining, it looks soo cool. It's on my equine to-do list.

Your paddock boots should be fine with jeans. I'm jealous, reining is a blast!

I a very far distant past, and I do mean far distant I showed the Quarter Horse circuit. I am proud to say that when I was 17 I was reserve World Champion (at the AQHA Youth Chapionships) in reining! :) and have the groovy buckle to prove it

You go and have a blast! And yes, your paddock boots will be fine.... but you may want to pick up some Wranglers ;)

Hmmm... yeah... the jeans thing hadn't occurred to me!! :o

So for those of you "in the know"... will a pair of jeans that I've ridden comfortably in a cc be ok, or do I REALLY need to get wranglers. Or just wear breeches :P

Wranglers are actually making their way out of the western world. I wear my zip up paddock boots with rubbers on them when I take reining lessons. I also wear my helmet :O

Have fun. Its a bast. My mother and I pretend to play AQHA Reining. Just remember not to say 'whoa' unless you really mean it.

And of course this means I get to post reining pictures right??

I'm jealous too! I've always wanted to do that. I had a chance to when I was younger on my dad's friends Arab stallion and it was SO much fun. Those horses are so well trained (usually), so it was kind of hard not to move the 'wrong' way and have them do some random maneuver!

I had the opportunity to ride a world champion reiner a few years ago through a business associate. Somehow the topic of horses came up and he offered to let me ride one of his $$$$$$$$ reiners. I have never had so much fun on the back of a horse!! I seriously considered switching to reining. You must report back and tell us how much fun you had!

Holy crap that was fun!!!

They put me on a super broke "school master" type... uber sensitive. I had no problem going, and REALLY no problem stopping :o (ok, apparently the horse, "Red", was having a little fun at my expense). Whole new perspective on relaxing your back and seat, and adjustability from the seat.

After I was done the trainer jumped up on Red, TOOK HIS BRIDLE OFF, and gave me a little demo of what that horse can really do. All I can say is WOW.

I don't see a change in discipline coming (still prefer the feel of a dressage horse), but I would totally recommend that anyone with a reputable trainer in the neighborhood take advantage of it!
