I only have one day to do research and purchase so I thought that I would ask you guys what you would recommend for stall mats. I have one 12'x12' stall to do, it will be leveled and tamped on thursday! I'm so excited but wasn't really expecting to shell out $400 for mats this week! Are the heavy 3'x5' mats from tractor supply (with the straight edges) sufficient? Do they stay together nicely and not allow bedding underneath? Should I expect to spend @ $45 per mat for a 3'x4'ish mat or can I find them for less? |

If your floors are truly level and your walls are square, they will be pretty good, although I would never say they "do not allow" any bedding underneath. Our stall floors are concrete and have various bumps and grooves in them, which is somewhat problematic. The biggest problem, though, is we learned how NOT square our stalls were when we laid the mats. None of the 3 stalls were the same and none were square. So we had to do a fair bit of cutting (which absolutely sucks) and even still we have a hard time making them fit properly. So we get bedding in between fairly often, although I will say I've become quite an expert at getting it out. That said, however, we pull the mats out every year and power wash the entire barn (not too hard with concrete floors and we have drains in each stall, too), and even with the poor fit the stall floors are really quite clean and dry underneath. I think we paid $38 for ours at Agway, but I do think they will last forever. Good luck! |

A little late, but we use TS ones too. They are a b**ch to get in the stall and fitting properly, but they do the trick. Only my one very talented gelding can paw up the corner of the one mat by his door. |
