I am looking for a farrier that comes to Aldie, my current one is not the most reliable :pissed: so I am looking for another one that does good work?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

That's a difficult one. I have a NoVa Horseman's Reference, if you want to take a gander...

Aren't you still using G?

Yes but he was suppose to be out 2 weeks ago then again Thursday now it's Tuesday. Thank god there was another farrier out this am to tack a shoe on Cabrio or he would have gone all weekend w/3 shoes. :psycho: Plus I am going to be gone the next two weekends so I have people coming in to ride him.

Ooh, that's not cool. Let me know if you want me to bring the NVHR out to the barn and you can stop by and take a look - there are literally 2 pages of names and numbers.

I use Pete Wolfe. He's from WV, but does a lot of shoeing in NoVA, and he does an excellent job. My horses get done every 5-6 weeks, and he schedules ahead, writes down the next date on the bill, and he WILL be there that day unless he's very ill. He also calls the night before to confirm what you want done on the horse(s).

Another alternative is John Pemberton. He does several of the show barns in the area, and I haven't heard many complaints regarding his reliability.

I cannot recommend this guy, as I've no idea of his work/reliablity.
But he's a name and a number and in the area, perhaps someone else can chime in. I crossed his stepdaughter at the elementary school I work at.

This is the farrier that does my Lipizzaner:

Mustafa Tehrani
mustafa @ shentel.net (remove spaces)

- master farrier from India
- worked in Dubai for HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, Princess Haya's husband
- 23 + years of international farrier expertise in endurance, flat-track & polo
- has been attending farrier for several FEI endurance events

My Personal Experiences:

Mustafa has been trimming my mare since I purchased her in 2007. He is a small, soft-spoken man who is *extremely* good with problematic horses, especially opinionated mares. Lipizzaner mares are known to be opinionated and difficult, mine is no exception.

Note: because of his Euro influences, he does leave more heel than most farriers and will insist on it. I don't have a problem with that because it is normal for Lips to have more heel (shoulder angles et al) and my girl is sound and moves very well.

My mare is located in Aldie, so he makes regular visits out here. He also does all the horses at the Academy of Equine Sciences. Mustafa has a huge workload and I am unsure as to whether he can/will take on another horse(s), but you can call or email him and ask. He has never missed an appointment unless he has called ahead. He's very reliable and I set up all my appointments via email and converse with him that way as well.
