I am selling my saddle on ebay and received a question about the tree. The person wanted to know if I would 'guarantee' the tree. I wasn't sure what this meant, so I asked for further clarification. She said she wanted to know what condition the tree was in, if there were any 'cracks'. This is my first time selling a saddle. Being that I can't actually see the tree, I'm not sure how to respond. I've ridden in the saddle up until the last week or so when my new one arrived, so as far as I know, the tree is fine. How do you respond to questions about the tree? |

I think that would be rather like guaranteeing a sale horse as "sound". As you said there is no way you can see the tree, and even if it were perfect when you sent it out it's always possible that it could be damaged in shipping. Used saddles are pretty much always sold "as is", it's the buyer's responsibility to gauge condition. Selling situations like Ebay are kind of tough because they don't allow for a trial period or even for the buyer to examine the saddle. I just bought a saddle off Ebay for the first time and I was a complete nervous wreck waiting for it to arrive. |

Tell her that the only thing that you can guarantee about the saddle is that it was in sound, usable condition when it was put in a box and shipped to her. |

Thanks, guys. I sent her a note explaining that I used it as recently as two weeks ago and showed in it in late April. I also offered that if there was some way to inspect it, I'd be open to looking into that. |
