Here is the link for the horse and hound article. It occurred at the Belton UK Horse Trial in advanced level over the weekend. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/281432.html I was sad to read this news. Interesting that in the picute of Ian he is going to the stick. Apparently Mike went to the stick with Kingpin too! Not sure the coincidence there! I have always considerd Advanced level eventing to be somewhat cruel with only really crazy horses willing to jump these large solid obstacles. and crazy horses that leap for their riders no matter what! Just sqeaking by in Eventing requires leg grease! Why does it have to be so hard??

I agree gunnar. For me the risk just too great. I find it really interesting too how even though there obviously are some serious problems that need to be addressed with the safety etc so many still are trying to justify why they do this to the horses? For me if I knew that the risk was this high... I would wait until they found the reasons for the injury/fatality increases.. at least so I was giving my horse a fair chance. I enjoy very much the lower levels of eventing.. but the advanced is just way too scary for me. To each his own, but I just really hope they find and fix what's wrong so that the sport can again be fun for everyone (including spectators). Edited by La Gringa, Apr 29 2009, 11:22 AM.

Gawd I can barely stand it anymore. Eventing needs to make a change. To what I don't know, but this is CARNAGE! The numbers don't lie. |
