He had a little gas colic episode tonight...... he seemed ok after a few hours, some walking, a little banamine... he did poop.... no temp, gums nice and pink, resps were up but that was the only other indication that something was wrong, aside from him biting his sides.

His best friend left a few days ago, I wormed him earlier in the week, and we've had a major temperature shift so I think all of those things just caught up with him.

I'm a nervous nellie these days, so of course now I am home worried about him! He seemed a-ok when I left but still I can't help it.

Hey guys... thanks for the good vibes!

I had to work this AM, but went out right after. The BO had left him in, and he was happily munching hay. He seemed his usual perky self. It is HOT here, 82 degrees, so I gave him a quick rinse and hand grazed him for a few hours.

He still seemed a wee bit off color but significantly better than last night. I'm looking forward to moving him to the new barn which should lower his stress level! He is just a sensitive old man. He'll have a huge broodmare stall, with a window and dutch door, and 20 acres of pasture to himself and 3 buddies. I think he will like it.

Thanks again everyone for the good wishes. We have some serious temp fluctuations the next week or so, so I will be keeping a close eye on him.

I know the temps are really crazy!! It's those major shifts that seem to bother him. It is so frustrating, because although I know at least EIGHT people who have known this horse, ridden him, had him at their barn, etc..... when I ask them questions about his habits, his care, etc. I just get this blank look.... it is sad! Sure everyone was happy to ride him and show him and use him for lessons and things but he never had ONE person so there is much about his health that is not documented.

Ah well I guess I am making up for it now with all my "helicopter mom" neurosis!!! ;)

Hey thanks guys. :)

The BO was very nice about us moving and said she'd be glad to have us back, so that is a good feeling. It will be sad to leave some of my friends but I am looking forward to the new place which is nice and quiet!

And Win is going to be in heaven with so much grass!! I'm hoping it means I can back off a lot of the grain which I think will help his tummy. Also been thinking about treating for ulcers. We'll see how he does...

I just saw this too Flashy, glad to hear he's doing better.

Chaz gets a dose of Omeprezole in the springtime. New grass, fluctuating temps, etc are just too much for his tummy as well. About a month ago he wouldn't eat his carrots so I knew something was up. I gave him some Omeprezole and within 30 minutes he was back to eating so it was a really quick fix. He's just finishing up a month's worth.

He also gets a very low sugar feed and lots of carrots daily to help throughout the rest of the year.

Good luck with the move but I would keep an eye on his tummy if he's going to be grazing alot more. Once he's used to it , it sounds heavenly :cloud9:
