Also, I'd like suggestions for a decent plain bridle that won't break the bank. Are Crosbys totally out (I heard quality has gone down teh tube)? Because I really love my old Crosby on him...
I bought a new Crosby last year as a schooling bridle, but wound up showing with it. I get lots of compliments on it and the leather is very nice and soft. BUT I know of a few people who said the noseband broke on them while riding. So maybe I just got lucky?

Here's a picture:

Well I had to go to Bevals to get my chaps altered, so I looked at bridles too. I picked up an unpadded Newport, which is dark, square raised and has no fancy stitching/ padding. Soooo when I get back to KY I will take pics and you all can vote on that one!

PF-My friend had the checkpiece or crown snap (I cant remember). My old Crosby is sooo sooo nice, I would kill for another like it.

Ok here is the next one I've got to try on him. I like it the best so far. Its an unpadded Beval Newport that I picked up when I was home in NJ for easter. Any opinions on this one? I think its pretty but understated enough to not interfere with his pony face but I tend to be biased :P Sorry about the quality of the pictures, I was trying to take them myself and he didn't think standing for photos was fun.

Third time's a charm? This one compliments his head and doesn't distract. Is it me or does it seem a little snug on his right-hand side (2nd photo)?

Jump The Moon also had a Crosby that she loved to pieces for years and years. Awesome bridle. She ended up getting the Aramis when we were down in Florida early 08 and it's gorgeous. It darkens up alot, like VERY dark and it's perfect for Skye's head. But he has a big head and I think it's way too much bridle for your horse's pretty head. It's hard to get past that horrid colour too :o but I can attest to the fact that they darken beautifully and are lovely quality leather. I bought her an Edgewood bridle to show in but I think she prefers the Aramis.

I really like the Newport on your horse. It suits him very well. He's quite adorable by the way, but I guess you already knew that :cloud9:

Thanks everyone, I think the Newport is a keeper.

Also, thank you for the compliments, he sure thinks he has a cute face =) Also, I have to say someone told me he has a short neck and I've developed a complex about it! Haha! I didn't think it was but maybe its a tad too short....otherwise hes perfect to me! :cloud9: :cloud9:

I guess I am in the minority, because I think that noseband is TOO small! :teehee: But I also much prefer the look of a fancy stich bridle when a horse has white on its face.

BT is right, I love my Aramas. It got SUPER dark (I had them darken it) and the leather is super nice. It doesn't fit Skye as well as my Edgewood but he's got kind of a big head (dont tell him I said that!)

I think an Aramas with a regular, not wide noseband would look fabulous on him. :cloud9:

This is what mine looks like now. Crappy picture but you can see just how dark it got, which I think looks great on a dark bay like your boy.

I like the plain bridle best on him. The crosby is my second choice, the arams I dont like at all. He has a cute baby face and I think the two bigger bridle take away from it. (And Im all about wider padded bridles).
The plain one in the last picture isn't mine, it was his old owners (pic taken the say I tried him). I just wanted to show a better one of just his head in a plain one.

If Crosbys were still decent I would get him one of those in a heartbead but everyone says they arent worth the money anymore.
The Crosby bridles are not good anymore, no. The one I had was very dry, although I oiled and conditioned it, but it was also flimsy and the stitching got gunked up. :(
