So I found two nice bridles for my new guy but I am not sure what looks best on him. Right now I use my old crosby square raised, plain bridle for schooling and I think that looks really nice. But alas, no longer in style and Crosby quality has gone down the tube.

I bought an Arama wide noseband bridle for him because i just love love love the look of them. But then I had second thoughts and bought him a Beval LTD which is square raised and padded. So now I have both and need to decide which one to keep (or to keep both and use one to school or get rid of both and start again).

Now I haven't oiled either one so they look funny because the color is so light on him and the leather is still stiff. Also it was storming outside, so these aren't the best quality pictures (not to mention he did'nt want to play the dress up game so he was fussying when I tried to take pictures). I'm partial to the Aramas but I am worried it may be too much for his classic TB face. My BF liked the Beval except for the raised part.

Here is the Aramas:

I think that the Beval is WAY too raised for him. I do like the Aramas--it is understated enough to flatter his head. The one part of the Aramas I don't like is that the brow is too big for him.

Love the Aramas on him, but I agree, the brow band is too big, can you buy a smaller brow band seperately?

Hey guys thanks. I had the same feeling about the Beval too but I wasn't sure if the wide noseband was too wide for his rather defined face. I always heard that the wider nosebands were better for a blockier head. It looked a bit funny because the leather is so stiff right now and the color is really orange. I'm headed to NJ this weekend, so I can look for a cobsized browband and if not, maybe it won't stick up so far once its program

Does the Aramas look nice compared to him in just a plain bridle (or should I find another nice plain one to show in)? Sorry for all of the questions!

Here is another picture.

I like the plain bridle best on him. The crosby is my second choice, the arams I dont like at all. He has a cute baby face and I think the two bigger bridle take away from it. (And Im all about wider padded bridles)

The plain one in the last picture isn't mine, it was his old owners (pic taken the say I tried him). I just wanted to show a better one of just his head in a plain one.

If Crosbys were still decent I would get him one of those in a heartbead but everyone says they arent worth the money anymore.

I like the beval, the wide noseband on the other one overpowers his head I think

I like the plain one in the last picture best, then the Beval. I don't like the Aramas at all on him- it's way too much for such a refined face. He does have a cute little face and I think it's really shown off best in the plainer bridle. Plus, I'd be worried that the padding on the Beval wouldn't darken up as much as the rest of the bridle and with his wide blaze that would really be too much going on his defined features. Go for plain!

I like the third one on him the best, then the Aramas, then the Beval. He has such a cute head.

I bought an LTD2 last year. FYI, it did NOT darken at all. I used it on Miller, who's chestnut, and it looked really nice on him. But after selling Mills, I put it on Sam (dark bay) and it looked terrible. For your incredibly cute horse, I like a darker bridle.

I like the plain bridle the best. He has a very nice head and the other bridles really detract from that.

Personally I do not like the first one on him - too wide and I'd be afraid it wouldn't darken up enough and wind up a chestnut color.
On both, the stitching just looks too 'busy' with his blaze.

So I would can them both and start again looking for a nice plain quality leather bridle in a darker color with no contrast piping, padding, or stitching. Let his beautiful face shine through the bridle, rather than having the bridle command all the attention.
Just my two cents - worth nothin' in this economy!

OK I think I will sell them both and look for a nice plain raised or plain square raised bridle like my crosby. I had the feeling about that, but I figured I needed some outside opions as well. I have never been a fan of fancy stitching on a horse with a lot of white, but the stitching on the wider one didn't seem so bad. I may keep the Aramas to school him in but I don't know.

So if anyone wants either, shoot me a PM with an offer =)

Also, I'd like suggestions for a decent plain bridle that won't break the bank. Are Crosbys totally out (I heard quality has gone down teh tube)? Because I really love my old Crosby on him...

My friend bought a Red Barn bridle and loves it. The quality is really nice and the price is excellent. She gets a lot of compliments. They're available at Smart Pak, so you can check them out online.

I agree. I don't like the Aramas (the wide noseband one) at all. The Beval is okay...but the plain one is the best by far...in my not-so-humble opinion. :teehee:

I LOVE the Aramas, but don't love it on him (sorry). I too like the third one the best. What about a more simple version of the beval?
