I Visited Candy Mountain and All I Got Was This Lousy Incision
[ * * * ]
I did the first "bad :censored: " of my adult life yesterday (turning 20 next month) and got a tattoo. I went to a newish place on the island where the artist has been an artist and machine maker almost as long as I have been alive and has had quite the range of clientele :jaw: . He was very supportive which helped as I'm not always the bravest person in the world. Pain factor? It did hurt, but only when I was actually being worked on (he paused to get more ink frequently); it was more of a thick and hot pressure with a nice endorphin rush when he was finished. The thickness of the line and location played a factor in how much pain I felt as well. This morning my left shoulder blade is a tad tender, but overall compares nothing to a sunburn.

For anyone on the fence, do it!

Here is the likeness I brought in to base that image off of, it was taken the first summer I had my horse and the friend who took it accompanied me to watch (as well as to see if I would pass out so she could point and laugh).

That looks awesome!

Just wait...you'll want another one soon :)

I have three tattoos: a heart on my hip, a butterfly on the inside of my foot below the ankly, and four horse shoes going up my back. I think I'm done now, but one never knows...
(and if any of you know my father, don't tell him I have any of these...I still have to figure out a way to hide the one on my foot for the wedding 'cause he'll kill me before he walks me down the isle if he sees it)

The only family members that I am worried about sharing it with are my grandfather and another mother/adult figure in my life. They'll probably think I am going to hell in a hand basket or something  I as well can't wait for my friends to see; I don't think they ever saw this coming :teehee: .

The thing is, I'm already thinking of what would look good where.... :innocent: I'll see if I can wait a few years.

That looks really good!

If you're anything like my boyfriend, you'll have another one soon. He's over in Japan right now (apparenly where tattoos originated?). He left the US with no tattoos 7wks. ago, and now has 3. One on his lower right arm, one (well, two, they're Kangi symbols) on the inside of his right arm, and he just got a throwing star made to look like a nautical star on his ribs. I told him he's DONE!

I have yet to get one.. I want one.. I'm just afraid they'll start and I won't be able to deal and I'll just have a line on me forever.

They are totally adictive. I think once you realize they're not all that bad to get, your mind starts cranking and you start wanting more. I got braver & more complex as mine went along too. Once I got my first, I immediately started plotting my second. Then I felt lopsided, so I got the one on my foot to ground things out. Now I'm balanced so I think I'm done.

My mom & I both got our first ones together almost five years ago (I was 24, she was 60). And I swear every time I see my mom she has another one! I think she has six or seven now (there may be more...haven't seen her since November...). She's quite decorative. She claims it's so it'll be easier to identify her body when her time comes :teehee:

I love that!! Very nice! I agree with everyone who has said they are addictive. I got my first last summer and will be getting another sometime this year. I don't know what I want next, yet but something on my foot/ankle.

Here's my first one:

Wow, you are so brave! I've wanted one for a long time and have been considering it for my 40th birthday in October.

Mr. Fishy calls me Fish Cheeks, duh, and whenever he leaves me notes, he draws me a picture of a fish. It is cute and cartoonish...that's what I'd get. I think I'd get it on the inside of my wrist. No offense to those of you who have it on your backs, but if I'm going to go through the pain to get one, then I at least want to be able to look at it!!!

I have to admit, I'm scared of the pain.

Awwwwww :cloud9:

No tats here but I want to get some scarrification done. My design is too simple to look good as a tat, I figure. Just not alot of faith in the local artists, sadly, but I'm itching to get it done soon.

Fish Cheeks, I showed my mom when I first got home and the first thing she said was "Huh, is it real?" because she never thought I would go through with it because of the pain. A day later I remember that it hurt, but I don't remember the exact pain, and already want to start drawing what I want next ;) . Like, when I fell off of the gelding on Monday, my knee hurt wayyyy more.

I got my first tattoos done a few years ago....my eyebrows. While I like looking at other people's tattoos, I probably won't do any more than what I have. Keep up the creativity (and post pics!)!!

Kady, if you pick something you want out and decide to give it a go, ask the artist to do a couple lines on you without ink so you know how it feels. Its not bad once you know what to expect. Just breathe through it and you will be fine!

I have two, a frog on my lower back and a horse on my ankle. I am actually contemplating having the horse removed. Its a black line drawing so it will come out just fine. I really like it, but I now think its just in a bad location. It bothers me at times when I feel its not appropriate. I want to have it mostly gone by a my good friend's wedding. I want to get something horsey in a more private location!

Yeah that's a good idea. I have anxiety, so my worry is that after sitting there (I HATE sitting and waiting) for 30min. or so I'm going to start getting all anxious and be like "Ok, I'm done. Bye!"
