Yesterday, I got a call from a friend that said a big storm was going to be heading our way around 3pm. I was already getting ready to leave work to head to the bank, so I just added running by the house to put the horses up....I finish with the deposit....and I'm leaving the bank's parking lot and his guy in his truck was NOT turning out of the parking lot...SO I start looking around, thinking that I didn't see or hear an Ambulance....I NOTICED he had his cell phone out the window so I look at what he was taking a picture of..........................W W SOME WILD CLOUDS....I hurry home and snapped these 3....I think they look like they have Cellulite ![]() ![]() ![]() These don't do them justice.....THEY were the strangest clouds I think I've seen.. HH

I got an e-mail with photos of clouds like that... I discarded it thinking it was one of those photoshop hoaxes... Wow... really neat to know that they do indeed exist... can't remember what the e-mail said they were called. |

That is totally COOL HH! It rolled through here late last night with some heavy rain (much needed). I consulted my "Field Guise to Weather" (Yes, I have one) and they're called "Mammatus" clouds. "Mammatus clouds indicate a very moist and unstable middle or upper level layer of the atmosphere, overlying a drier layer below an anvil produced by an adjacent cumulonimbus. ...The individual elements of the mammatus represent convection in the inverse, that is, instability in the downward direction rather than upwards. ...if the mammatus clouds are relatively weak and in the distance and not approaching, then the threat from the storm that produced them is not likely to be very great. However, if they are large and approaching, the sky should be watched closely for the possibility of severe weather." They are always associated with storm clouds (anvil...cumulonimbus) and warm, humid weather. |

HH you should send those photos to the weather channel They're very unusual clouds and even if they don't air them I'm sure they'd love to see them.

Wow, bizarre clouds and really cool photos, HH! I don't think I've ever seen any like that...not sure I want to if what they indicate follows. I know a lot of us need rain, but I'll take mine without the nasties, thank you very much! |

I think a really cool way to think of them, is like picturing being under the ocean looking up at breakers/waves from underneath. It's exactly the same thing but with air. I LOVE weather!!!!

I got to see the Fort Worth Tornado move NORTH of us..and again that next week......My husband and I were STUPID enough to just watch it....the garage was open and we were sitting there watching the storm... I'm too skert to send them in.. I know our news station showed a few of them...some actually moving around..that was neato..NO major damage here...just 1/2 inch of MUCH needed rain... HH
