LOL, I think the whole Fox premise is to get people riled up. I think they air this stuff to create controversy.

I too was offended by Obama's gaffe on the Special Olympics. Sure we all joke about stuff like that, but a US President really needs to be more careful on National TV. He slipped, but in my opinion it is kind of like a view into his soul for a split second. Does he really think that way in private? He's supposed to represent all Americans, no matter of color, creed, disability, hairstyle or whatever. It's one thing when Larry the Cableguy makes comments like that, another when Obama does.

Granted he apologized immediately, but I still think people have every right to be upset about it. It was pretty insensitive.

I agree but I don't think he meant anything at all by it so I don't read into it other than yeah unfortunately he has to watch every single word he says, how he says it, what he wears etc. This is why no one we actually would want to be President, would ever want the gig.

He apologized immediately, before it even ran on air....I don't see anyone at FoxNews apologizing....

Oh and if anyone is upset about the Special Olympics remark, I don't blame them. I am not personally, but I certainly wouldn't come on here and bash anyone who was offended.

I think it's funny. And meant to be funny. And certainly no more offensive than our president making fun of the Special Olympics :duh:

IMHO, Canada is a more worthy target of military jokes...they certainly have never been considered a military might. After all, lots of French blood there...
As someone who is very proud of her French heritage, and her family's long tradition of military service, I find this comment deeply offensive. Indeed, we do not have a military the size of the United States, or other nations, but we have a long, proud tradition of serving when needed, of answering the call when asked and sacrificing our young men and women, just as other nations have at times of war.

What makes the comments of the Fox news bumblefarts more galling than anything is that this was aired on a day when 4 more young Canadians lost their lives in a war that is not a war, doing their job. And this in a week where we had lost 2 other brave young souls. See, while we do not have the "might" of the US military, we still have a military who are serving to keep the world safe from tyranny and we too have young people dying on an almost daily basis. Our numbers of dead may never be as high as those in the US, but they are our dead soldiers who deserve to be honoured, not pilloried and certainly not made fun of.

No military, anywhere is a worthy target of military jokes.
I feel the same way and with my SO being in the arm forces it hits closer to home seeing as he has already been over there and may have to go back. So any time any country's arm forces are put down in anyway you are putting down every other country including your own. So next time our country is asked to help maybe we should say "Sorry where just to small to be of any help".

Big difference between goofy dolts making fun of grown capable men than the leader of our nation using people with disabilities as a punchline.

This statement by Frank Schaeffer ~"There would be less special Olympians if we had decent health care for all, because less children would be born with problems." is disturbing.

Nice... I hope this isn't the standard thinking of those on the left.

CL he was making fun of his OWN abilities...on a COMEDY show...at his OWN expense, not anyone elses. Were you not the one saying people need to lighten up and not take things so seriously? C'mon.

Are you wearing your big girl panties??? :nyah:

I have a soft spot for folks with disabilities (mental and physical)... I'm sure anyone else who has the chance to visit Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital would come away feeling the same. :candle:

I think it was just a slip. He should have just left he Special Olympic comment out. Everybody pokes fun sometimes at themselves being "dorky or retarded" I know I do. I just think the President probably needs to watch jokes like that... for obvious reasons. I think he does too, hence his apology.

I would like the think that any of us would have a "soft spot" for those less fortunate than ourselves. Suffering and empathy are not exclusive to culture, race or religion...or political affiliation ;)

Am I missing something, or how is this any different than people having a soft spot for those in the military serving their COUNTRY, especially those with SO's (and children, and fathers, etc) who have been to Afghanistan and Iraq?

Because the ones who come back missing body parts are eligible to compete in the Special Olympics. Not all Special Olympians are mentally handicapped. I just don't like it when people make jokes with malicious intent or not about others who don't have any control over conditions they were either born with or that life has dealt them... it is tacky, and I don't care who they are... but it really rubs me wrong if they do it while under the guise of "champion for the underdog".

I think Obama was more picking on his own abilities than anybody elses. I think this is way over blown guys... the Fox News thing was my point of this post, picking on the Canadian Army... I mean why bash Canada, they don't hurt anybody and are our ally...

The Obama thing, just a flub, and there probably will be more... he's human after all. ;)
