This is so weird. A friend of mine has a dog that could be Meathead's twin. I will ask her for a digital photo. This will freak her out! Her dog is around 5 years old now, but I kid you not - it could be the same dog She adopted hers in Raeford, NC. |

MGP, I haven't had a real terrier in about 15 years, so I wasn't sure that I wanted one. Boston's may be called Terriers, but they aren't. They have an off button, unlike the Jack Russels I've owned in the past. I figure that since my kids don't have off buttons, they should be a pretty good match. Scout the black and tan pup in the picture is a bit too mellow for them, so a wirey little terrier should be just what the Dr. ordered. BH1, Here's a link to the Irish Terrier. It's probably what your friend has. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Terrier Filet isn't house broken at 8 months old, so that is probably how he wound up at the shelter. Every real terrier I ever owned was very difficult to house break. The Bostons were a cinch, but my two Russels I had before, were a real pain. This poor guy hides and sneaks around and then cowers, so it's pretty obvious that someone attempted to housebreak him and did a pretty bad job of it. He's seems so smart that it shouldn't be a problem to get him straightened out. I keep him crated at night and if I have to go out and he hasn't gone in the crate. Then, I'm keeping him on a leash, tied to me, for the next few days while in the house and taking him out every hour, so he won't be tempted to make a mistake. I give him bacon when he goes outside, so he thinks it's just great to go out. |

Wikipedia says about training Irish Terriers: "Violence should never be used - it is always best to outwit and lure." So it sounds like bacon is the way to go. Or perhaps he told your girls that he wanted filet mignon and they misunderstood! |

He's so cute. He reminds me of Benji...I LURVED Benji as a kid (enough that I couldn't pass up the 5 in one DVD of Benji movies in the $5 movie bin at Wal-Mart. I'm 37...with no kids. :D) Filet Mignon is a strange, strange name. Heheee. I will lay the blame on you, though. Your adorable, petite little children shouldn't know the words Filet Mignon yet. They should've name him Mac and Cheese. ![]() (I think Biscuit is a great dog name. My friend had a corgi name Biscuit and I just loved it). |

That's hysterical. I thought we were the only ones wierd enough to have an animal named Filet Mignon. The other funny thing is that you call your daughter the Squido and my daughter's last name is Calamari, so they are both squids. I kept my maiden name. I just couldn't become a squid. |

Calamari!! She really IS a squid-o. We pretty much corner the market with strange animal names and nic names. If you stand still long enough at my house, you WILL get a novelty name. I'm so glad you got him! I agree that it would be a shame to lose such a nice guy. Good on your family for tking the plunge, witchy! Where the heck are my updated filly pics????????

AS a very young child -- yup, many, many years ago -- I had a parakeet that I named: "Diddle-Daddle-Doodle-Fiddle-Poochie-Barclay" He was allowed to walk on the mahogany dining room table, where he pecked toast crumbs from my father's plate; then he would look at his reflection on the table. I was a happy child. |
