I have two Pomeranians, and I live in a dog-friendly condominium. Dogs everywhere. However, there are NO garbage bins, nor is there any other container in which to dispose of the poop. They don't want to have to pay someone to collect it. :brickwall:

I've been using biodegradable baggies for some time, as do my neighbors, and we used to hide them under the stairs until trash days (MWF). But now we've been busted by the HOA, and I have nowhere to keep the baggies of poop between trash pickups. I don't want them in my kitchen trash (stinky!) and I am on the top floor so my deck has no cover - nowhere to keep them outside but away from the elements.

I bought a small trash can - the kind you open by stepping on a pedal - thinking the lid would be tight enough to keep the smell in. Nope.

So, I'm researching disposal methods for the bane of my existence, and I came upon the FLUSHABLE poop bag! Dissolves when put in contact with water! Sounds great...at first.

What happens if I have to use it in the rain? :o :spew:

Back to drawing board, I am. :lonely:

Is there a diaper genie for dogs? Something similar but smaller, and attractive/plain-looking enough to put in my foyer?

Perhaps a small rubbermaid tub would have a tight enough lid to keep the stink in, coupled with a stick-on air freshener inside the tub? Out on your deck. That way you also could take it in the car with you when you go somewhere and dump the poop bags in a public garbage can or dumpster.

Could you not keep them in a closed lid container out on the deck?

Maybe you could bring it back in the house, dump the poop in the toilet, and then put the bag inside another bag with a ziplock to throw it away, to avoid the stink.

I have absolutely nothing helpful to say. I will never live in a place with a homeowner's assoc.

Oh, and your thread must have triggered the banner ad for the flushable poop bags. I saw it while I was reading. :teehee:

We use something called a Litter Locker for our cats. It is the best thing EVER and has made a huge difference in keeping the cats bathroom from smelling bad (I hate when peoples houses smell like pet, and this works really well).

We ordered it online from Petco:

I was going to recommend the litter locker as well - while it wouldn't be great with larger dogs, I think Pom poop is probably fairly managable. The bags with it work great at keeping odor out. Or, just get a diaper genie if you want something bigger!

I've seen mixed reviews on the Litter Locker, and am concerned that the extra bags would clog it up - with the cat poo you just rake it up and pop it in, but with my dogs I'd be picking it up with the one bag and then putting the whole thing in the bag that's housed withing the LL. But, if I find one cheap enough, or returnable, I'll definitely try it.

What I'd REALLY love is just a small, weather-proof container, with a tight lid. Something that holds maybe 3 gallons, to keep out on the deck. Attractive enough that I can sit out on my deck with guests and not be looking at say, a big plastic paint container or ugly Rubbermaid trash can. Something that looks like it matches the decor.

And the scoop, flush, dispose of bag in another bag thing just sounds like a lot of trouble.

I guess I have to continue to look further. I know what I want exists but I haven't seen anything like it recently.

I know I'm being picky, but I don't have a lot of space, so what I do have is always on display. I don't want my deck to look like a storage shed.

Check out gardenerssupply.com. They might have something that fits the bill. Not specifically for dog poop, but they may have a decorative, water tight container suitable for patios and decks.

Edited to add that I just checked -- take a look at this: Odor-free compost pail. It has a lid and replaceable carbon filter to prevent stinkiness.
