So, with my car at the barn and my truck not quite fitting into my parking space and work, and my cycling trip in Italy less than a month away, I decided to drive to the metro parking lot and then ride the bike trail into work today. Provided it was only 15 miles, but I'm pretty proud of myself--it was so much fun--it wasn't raining, but the air was damp and lots of pretty misty fog--riding over the key bridge into Georgetown with all the fog on the water was picture perfect. It was such a great start to the week in otherwise gloomy times and I thought I would share in case I can inspire someone else to park the car and bike in! :nyah:

That sounds awesome! I wish I could get in to biking - I just can't seem to find time for a new endevor :( Bummer. It will happen though. If I had somewhere to bike TO it would help! I guess I could bike to the barn, but then I would have to drive my dog there first (and its only 2.5 miles).

Sounds like fun. I had several coworkers when I worked in Tysons that did that.

:woot:

I have been doing some serious biking of late and am LOVING it! I bike to my children's school two days a week - not sure of the mileage, but I would guess it's at least 15 kilometers each way. It's a time commitment to do it, but when people question my sanity (as they seem to do each time they see me on my bike), I ask them if they take an exercise class. Which they *all* do - they not only take a taxi to the class, but they PAY for the class besides! :psycho:

It takes me 1 hour and twenty minutes combined trip. It would take me 40 minutes in a taxi. So, the extra 40 minutes are "free exercise." :cloud9: I also bike to the grocery store and our Costco equivalent, Ikea, and the local touristy place where I buy yarn at least once a week. So, a lot of great exercise! And no non-renewable resources required!!

Awesome!!! Good for you (and you too, RR!!)

I have to admit that I'm sort of bike/traffic nervous....probably something I would get over if I did it more but something about braving rush hour traffic on a bicycle freaks me out. I always give cyclists a huge wide berth when I'm driving because so many times it seems like cars don't give them any...how scary that must be! But it all depends on the route and the roads...I'm jealous. And don't have a bicycle, but might be time to get one anyway....I need the exercise!

You're my hero!

Reynard, I have this vision of you with a basket on your bike bringing home fresh produce and yarn :cloud9:

I'm a little nervous in traffic too, to be honest. That's why I drove to the bike trail--so I wouldn't have to navigate too much traffic. What got me a little more comfortable in traffic was riding with seasoned "pros" who do DC traffic all the time--I would follow their lead and learned a lot of "street savvy" from them.

Good for you RH!

The SO and I bought bikes last spring. He is now biking to work. (me not so much, I have to get on the interstate) He is also not longer using the elevator at work and takes the stairs every time.
