The World Cup stuff in Vegas falls a couple of days after my birthday. My DH has said that if I really wanted to go he would pay for my flight and hotel. :rose:

Sadly, he can't go (which is just as well, because it might make him want to gouge his eyes out!)

I've never been to Vegas... Where should one stay? And if anyone else is going, can we hook up, so I'm not the only person in Vegas alone?? :P

Hopefully I am still going! Mr G's injury will make it hard but for now we plan on being there. My b-day is the 14th so I will be celebrating too! I am staying at Hooters! It is cheap and a good location. I will go to the performances alone but we certainly could meet up!

:one: Heading to Vegas "also for the first time", with one of my friends, and meeting 4 more gals from BC. Thinking reservations are made for the Paris Hotel across from the Bellagio Hotel.
A couple of the Ladies have made this trip before, so hopefully will know the routine & routes etc.

CanadianStarz... You and i are in the same neck of the world. Are you leaving from T.O or Buffalo? Did you get a flight/hotel deal together?
I'm trying desperately to figure out what is the best way to go...

If you are doing a flying package I am sure there are some good deals (I will be driving!). Have you checked any of the websites for deals? As far as the CAsinos go if you stay at a big one you will forever be walking thru it to get anywhere! Same with the parking if you have car. If you do not have a car the line at the horseshow is very long for Taxis etc. If you stay at the Hard Rock or the San Tropez you can walk. LV is a hugge place with varying levels of luxury vs non luxury. I have stayed at Paris and the Venetian while working. I cannot afford them this year! :mallet:

Departing from Toronto R4N. Thinking it was cheaper to fly from Buffalo with North West, but my friend wanted the convenience of Toronto.
This is also our first time in Vegas, however the other gals from BC apparently know their way around. :luck:
Will find out flight times from my Cannuckian partner in crime. Drop me an e-mail later, and I will have more information. travis_hall@sympatico.ca
Would love to meet you Gunner! Keep those tips coming for all us Newbie Vegas Folk!! :cheer:

So as a "Vegas Virgin" does anyone have any comment on the best places to stay? I'm looking for safe, clean... and if I can get fancy for cheap that is great too!

I've looked at the San Tropez, and Hooters, and the look fine to me, however I can't imagine saying to anyone that "my husband paid for me to go to Vegas without him, and I stayed at Hooters!" :psycho:

Any advice is good.... I'd love to hear people's Vegas experiences, and a list of places to avoid!

I heard about that too! Apparently it is going on at the South Point hotel. Not far from the strip and also one of the sponsoring hotels for the World Cup! I haven't looked at a schedule for that tho... I figured that I would have enough to do with the World Cup alone!

Arabian Nationals are in October, in Tulsa.

You could check out the iaha website for anything going on in region 7 while you're there ;) (or the usef site)

Any of you going who want to play the penny slots (I know, I'm a cheap date :teehee: ), be sure to look for the "dairy cow" slot game....I won $80 for a 5-cent investment...I guess I'm the only loony tune who'd play something like that. Hey, 80 bucks is 80 bucks!

I will be in vegas at the same time. I arrive around midnight on the 15th and I leave to come home on the 23rd on the red eye. I doubt that I will get to see any of the horse action, but I would love to catch up with you all while in Vegas! I am staying at the Treasure Island. There are good deals at most of the hotels right now as Vegas is hurting in the economy.

i have stayed at both. But Hooters was not Hooters than. It was the San remo. We had a room on the lower floors looking right at the motedl 6! I am staying at Hooters just for the price and the location! St. Tropez had a nice big room and a patio. Right across the Street from Hard Rock. We liked it a lot. the reviews don't sound so good! ;) some one did get run over and killed in the X walk between Hrd rock and st Tropez. It was terrible. YOu have to be super careful in LV or you will get run over! :argh:

Both these hotels are right off the strip which is a good thing when there is traffic! It can get very congested on the strip. If I had the $$ I would stay at Paris with a Bellagio view. the fountain is marvelous

Waaaah. Annie and I are not going this year.

For you newbies...RENT A CAR...the cab line at the Thomas & Mack after each performance can be up to an hour long. It's a 10 min. walk to the strip, but walking through some not-so-nice blocks which is not fun in the dark.

Or, ask if your hotel has a shuttle bus!

We've stayed at the Monte Carlo, which was excellent for the price and was, at the time, not as pricey at NY, NY or Paris.
