What would be the best way to send a small donation to an organization in Canada...a regular check, money order, something else? Nothing major, just a contribution, but I don't want the receiver to have to pay anything extra to cash it or lose out in any way.

I hope our numerous TOC-ers from the Far North will be able to advise me, please?

Check is fine or money order is even better, if you can send it right to there bank account there is no cost. I hate to send cash by mail but if it is just $20.00 then that works too. there is no charge if it is going right in to an bank account but if they want to cash it then there will be a small charge. if you do a money order make sure you get it in Canadian funds. hope that helps.

THANKS, Eleanor! Yes, it helps. I like the idea of going directly to the bank account and I'll check to see if I can do that. I'll also see about getting it done in Canadian money.

Thanks again! :rose:

Or you could bring it in person. Drive up, stay over for a few nights :martini: :cheer: :martini: :cheer: :martini: and then head back home. I have a REALLY comfy bed in my spare room :woot:

Excellent idea, BT, and I thank you! :rose: How I wish I could. :martini: :martini: :martini: I might never make it to Sheaffer's birthday party though. In lieu of presents, he wants donations to a favorite donkey sanctuary, so that's what I'm up to (oooops, will you look at that -- TWO prepositions at the end of the sentence!).

:point: Would this bed be in the dining room?

not funny OTF :(

It's a really nice bed. And we will try and eat quietly ;)

I thought a preposition was when a guy came up to you in a bar :martini: :psycho: :teehee:

Money to Canada? Easy!

I will send you a check for $2,356,345. If you would be so kind as to cash the check, you can keep the $2M! Just send me (quick!) $365, 345. While you are doing this, I'll take the Trans-Siberian Railway across to the edge of Russia, hope over to the Aleutian islands, skitter across Alaska, and wind my way down to wherever you want the money to go. They take RMB in Canada, don't they?

A regular Cheque or Money Order is just fine. We are presently Training Equines for a Lady in the US. She merely sends us a cheque, and on the cheque writes either "Canadian or US funds".
If a Donation is being made to the Donkey Sanctuary, just ask them to send back a receipt in which ever name you are making the donation for.

BT, I just did the 'elephant trick' with some Coke (Coca-Cola, I mean). I'll have to think about that preposition thing...I used to have experience with that sort of thing, but it's been a while. :teehee:

RR, that Trans-Siberian train trip sounds like fun (unless one is seated with the chickens and goats). Not sure how you'll skitter across Alaska though.

CStarz, thanks! I didn't realize one could just write one or the other on the check. Actually, this donation will be for Primrose Donkey Sanctuary, not THE Donkey Sanctuary. Primrose is smaller, and the woman that Sheaffer "owns" is a friend of the Primrose person. :)
