Hey guys. I had a tooth taken out yesterday, the upper jaw, last molar on the left side. And today I feel like I've been hit by a train. The whole left side of my face throbs and my sinus is all messed up. Unfortunately because I missed yesterday and my job works on a stats system, as in I have to be there to stay up in the stats, resolve the accounts, therefore making the bonus, I gotta go today. I have vicoden, and it's lovely, but I'd rather not get reliant on that.

Enough whining, I was just wondering what it is that I can eat? I've been doing applesauce, and mashed taters, and noodle soup, but I'm worried that the noodles are gonna get stuck in the hole. Any other suggestions? It feels like it's still draining.

Pudding. It's mushy, it's delicious, and it comes in chocolate.

I survived on applesauce & chocolate pudding for a few days after having my wisdom teeth out. I tried the noodle soup route, but I had a noodle go down a hole & that was not cool so I stuck with the smooth stuff.

Smoothies!!! The good ones with extra protein added etc. It's my "stressed out and don't feel like eating" fallback.

Yup, I agree with Ibex. This would be the time to splurge on a Booster Juice or something like that. Smoothies with lots of extra protein to help heal. Even scrambled eggs and a creamy vegie soup along with your applesauce, yogurt, pudding, milkshakes....

Drag about having to go to work. Hope you heal quickly :luck:

Someone reccomended scrambled eggs but I'm worry that they might get stuck? Where can I get the smoothie mix? We have a margarita machine, which doubles as a smoothie maker.....point me in the right direction.:) Thanks gals.

Milkshakes!

Or do what I do and make a protein shake, you'll feel better than just downing milkshakes... 1-scoop chocolate protein powder, a few teaspoons of chocolate syrup (because chocolate protein powder really isn't chocolatey), a banana, ice, and some water or milk (not a lot, maybe half a cup). It's fairly decent for you.

Hope yer feeling better girlie, maybe you can pop down here and visit me one of these days...

Soft cold for the 1st couple days, then you can go to soft hot. Ask me how I know. Milkshakes and pudding are your friend, as is yogurt. You'll want yogurt that's more blended than chunky though. And you can make yogurt smoothies if all you have is chunky. A really ripe banana, some chocolate powder and milk with a bit of lemon yourgut is pretty yummy.

BUT - NO STRAWS. (Just in case your dentist forgot to mention that.) Use a spoon for smoothies. At least until your dentist clears you for straws. Mine is adamant about this.

I have more experience than most. :sigh: Feel better.

That was my first thought when people were recommending smoothies. NO STRAWS. If you try to suck through a straw, you'll suck the forming clot right out. NOT GOOD.

I guess I've never had problems with extractions (and I've had plenty...nine, I think...four were baby teeth). I stick to liquid like stuff for the day of the extraction, but after that I'm pretty good adding in soft solids and back to normal by the third day. If my oral surgeon only knew what i ate the day after my latest surgery. The appt the week after he was telling me I could start adding in things like soup, mashed potatoes. Heh...I'd already been eating sandwiches, etc. Oops. :teehee:

Well, Black Tack, I've had more extractions than I would have wanted. For some reason no one understands, I lost a ton of bone in my mouth very quickly a few years ago, I had bone and tissue sent to several dental schools throughout the US for biopsy and culture, and no cause was ever found. Fortunately it stabilized, and I've only lost 2 teeth since then, but I would need bone grafts to do implants. Thus I'm quite the experienced extractee. :bigwhoop:

SARAH!! I would LOVE to come visit you....now that I'm back at my dads rather than in the hell hole that was Hazleton....I'd really love to visit. PM me...or email....work is lindsey.siegrist@salliemae.com and I'm there from 1 to 10 PM mon-fri......cept i'm going in late today, and early tomorrow. How are your two?? I miss ya.

Yea, I know about the no straws....AND no smoking....:( I gotta find a way to smoke......

The last thing I wanna do is yank the forming clot out and have to start all over, NOT fun. I'll try to find smoothie mixes at walmart or wegmans......wegmans might be dangerous at this stage of the game.;)

SnackPack....I'm a self proclaimed wimp.....it's funny, I broke my nose feeding hay to the ponies last year and I was all, "I'm fine, this is no biggie" and I get a molar pulled and I'm drugged up and laying on the sofa for 24 hours....oye!! Did your jaw feel really sore? Like to talk/yawm/open your mouth? How long does that last?

Agreed, and just in case you missed it, I'll reiterate: NO STRAWS!!!

When I had my wisdom teeth out, they told me no straws. After a few days I figured (ha!) that I had healed enough, and broke down and used a straw for my smoothie. Ended up with a dry socket, which is when the blood clot that is protecting (and helping to heal) the space left when the tooth is taken is sucked out, leaving exposed bone. WORST. PAIN. EVER. I am telling you, it felt like my entire head was in a vice and someone was drilling into my jaw again. Absolutely horrible.

TD, what everybody else said sounds like good advice, esp. chocolate pudding and milkshakes with a spoon. I hope you get over the rough spots quickly and don't have to work on the weekend. :jingles:

Black Tack, ummmm, exactly what is "Booster Juice?" Sounds like a good name for a sweet tropical fruit drink with a lot of rum in it to me. So....I guess I answered my own question.
