Kovy, it crashed on Long St. which is about 20 steps from the Clarence Center Coffee House and behind the Eshelman building. About 100 yards from the fire station on Clarence Center.

When we first heard the news we thought it was a small private plane, as there are quite a few airstrips around there. We were shocked to find out it was a passenger jet.

Nice to meet another Clarence resident, unfortunate circumstances though.

Thanks, Flash. This is heartbreaking. :,(

I think the last time I was home was '02 or '03, and am having a hard time picturing where the crash is... Ok, so I just mapquested, the crash isn't too far from the house where I grew up, and the barn I learned to ride at, on Old Goodrich Rd. Ack, so very, very sad. :candle:

Thanks 6th Sense! I am headed out in a bit to check on him. I am sure he is fine. A few of us are going to head out together, none of us wanted to be out there alone! We are going to try to drive out and loop back around and hopefully avoid the closed roads.

It is just very weird to have this sort of thing happen here, I can't wrap my head around it. My heart breaks for all those who have lost friends and family.

Flashie we have some friends that live in that area. Is Long Street anywhere near Washington?? They're in Snyder, technically, but I am not familiar with the area.

How utterly tragic and scary.

I looked it up and it's about three blocks away I think. Holy moly.

Hey Jilli.... if they are in Snyder they are about 15-20 minutes away from the scene.... but quite close to the actual airport.

Everyone in the area is shocked... zombie-esque would be a good description.

Far as I know they haven't released the official passenger list yet, though some names have been made public by family. Seems everyone knows someone on that plane. :(

Also while the one house was the only one demolished, I guess the rest on the street are pretty beat up to the point of being uninhabitable.

It is all really sad.

Jet fuel is pretty nasty stuff, so I'm not surprised that it's not safe for residents who were close.

I looked at the map again, and I saw that they are not too near there, Flashie. So hard to orient yourself when you've never been there. I guess everywhere has a "Long street"

So incredibly sad!!

Oh it is, very hard, to orient yourself via maps sometimes if you've not been there. I have the hardest time with maps unless I am familiar with the area.

I just didn't want you to worry about them, as they are probably safe and sound tucked away from the crash. ;)

I just heard from a friend (same friend from the "Karma" thread in the Hay Loft). One of the victims was her late mother's best friend.

When my friend's mom was in the final days of her fight with BC, this is the lady that held the family's hands, gathered friends, said prayers and arranged the memorial service at the local synagogue.

My friend is absolutly devastated - I think it's a bit like losing her mother all over again. :,(

From CNN:

Susan Wehle

A person who knew the 55-year-old cantor of Temple Beth Am in Williamsville, New York, described Wehle as "a very, very spiritual person."

"She just glowed with excitement and energy when she talked about her spirit and the spirit of religion that lives within her. She expressed that in so many ways," synagogue administrator Richard Ellis said.

Ellis had been planning to drive to the airport to pick up Wehle when she arrived in Buffalo on Thursday. But instead of getting a text message from her at the Buffalo airport, he saw the news that a plane from Newark, New Jersey, had crashed.

Before Wehle joined the Temple Beth Am, she was a cantorial soloist at Temple Sinai in Amherst, New York.

Wehle taught music workshops, conducted choirs and performed in concerts and with theater companies, according to a biography on the temple Web site. She released a CD called "Songs of Hope and Healing."

She is survived by two sons, one in Israel and another in Vermont.

Ellis said Wehle, who lived in Amherst, was well known across the religious spectrum through her interfaith work. People were shocked to hear about Wehle, he said.

"She's going to be so missed by the whole community, not just the Jewish community," Ellis said. "She was loved by everyone."

Ibex, there was a story on the news last night about Susan Wehle. Sounds like she was a wonderful woman, and from the pictures, you could see this amazing spark of vitality in her eyes. She looked like someone who had a really positive energy.

I am so sorry for your friend's loss. :( It is incredibly how many people are touched by this incident. So sad.
