Hi all, not sure where to post this but with all the discussion related job loss, I wanted to offer up my services if anyone wanted another pair of eyes to review their resume. I have been in corporate HR and recruiting for 16 years and have reviewed thousands upon thousands of resumes. I have sort of started a side business of resume writing along with a colleague. I normally charge $75/hour but I certainly don't want to add to anyone's financial difficulty at this time, so for any interested TOC folk, I'd be happy to at least have a free looksee at your resume and let you know how it looks from the hiring authority point of view as well as recommend any changes. If it needs major work with significant rewriting, I'd let you know as well as an estimate of cost. The last resume I did took one hour, start to finish and was almost completely rewritten. So just throwing that out there if anyone wants to take advantage of another set of eyes (for free!)... just send me a PM. Edited by MayaTy02, Feb 11 2009, 07:37 PM.

OOOH! I was just lamenting that I needed a good resume writer... I don't have a real live professional resume (I have, after all, mostly been a student...). I'm going to be out of town for while horse showing, but I would LOVE to hire you. I need someone creative! |

Maya that is a very generous offer. I owned a recruiting company for 10 years and we had a staffing division and an executive search firm. Even when I was working on C-level retained searches I spent soooooo much time re-doing resumes and cover letters. It can be time consuming to get it just right and I always tweaked resumes and cover letters for each specific job as well. People don't realize how important it is to tailor their resume to each individual job they are applying to, nor do they realize how much time and effort it takes to write a really good resume and cover letters. I had a friend of mine ask me to review his resume this summer. It was terrible and he is an HR professional (SPHR no less) and has been for 15 years - I couldn't believe his resume needed that much help given his background!! |

Very kind offer! I hope those who need help will accept the offer. I'm happy to do the same, if anyone wants an additional set of eyes. Out of curiosity, where do you advertize your services? I had thought about putting my toe in the water of doing the same thing. I have, for free, helped several student with resumes and college application essays. I was an English major and now I’m a professional writer of sorts (lawyer). I had thought about offering some editing on the side but didn’t really know what the going rate was or where to advertize. I am afraid Craig’s List will just bring out the crazies! Care to speak a little about how you handle the business? |
