I am having such bad luck lately with work, it's just unbelievable. No warning no explanation today, I was outta there. WTF is wrong with people? At least they could have told me to my face what happened.

LG, as I said on the other thread, this is just stinky! No matter what, a GOOD manager should do this in a manner that preserves the self-esteem and dignity of the person. It sure doesn't sound as if that was the case, and I'm sorry you were on the receiving end. Wish I were a little closer...I'd take you out for a couple of and some brief distraction from the reality of the world. More to you -- and major to your former employer!

They didn't even say I was fired. I showed up and my door card didn't work. No explanation period. I wasn't even told I was fired. Called the staffing agency (I was a temp afterall) They just said Tuesday was my last day, no explanation. WTF is that? They could have saved me the trip to Frederick from Middleburg at least. Geez. The job was kind of boring, but it was a job. I was willing to stick it out.. due to the economy. I went every day, did my work, and they didn't say anything was wrong. I am totally dumbfounded. The only thing I can think of is that we were ahead of schedule and maybe they didn't need me? Still that is crappy.

Honestly technically it could be the temp agency's fault. I have had to fire temps and we always ask the temp agency to do it one perk of having a temp, rather than an employee. So speaking as a corp HR director, it could be that they told the temp agency to let you know and they didn't. who knows, it's horrible all around. I'm sure it wasn't your fault, probably some kind of cost cutting initiative....

I just don't get the no explanation part. If the temp agency had to fire me fine, but why??? What did I do or not do? No verdict. I guess it's just tough life? I am hitting the job boards and pavement pounding already, sent out resumes this afternoon. With this market, I am scared it will take months... and I don't have months money wise. I may be packing up and going to Calif to live with my folks if this drags on. Ugh. |

![]() Well, no matter who was at fault, it must have felt pretty awful. If there was a work-related reason for it, certainly you would benefit from knowing (e.g. if you weren't doing the job as they wanted...how else can you improve?) And if the reason was the economy, other staffing, etc., well certainly it seems to be the proper etiquette to just say that. I will keep my fingers crossed that the next thing that comes along is outstanding and you are perfect for the job. ![]() And a couple won't hurt tonight, right?

Thanks guys, it's a new day, and I am feeling better. I was hoping to go ride today but it's like 50 mph winds so I think I will leave it for tomorrow. Green bean TB and this wind is not a good combo today. I will go out and play with Zuni later... she always cheers me up. |

It is very unprofessional for them not to give you an explanation. I agree with MayaTy02 though, in my experience the employer almost always tells the temping agency and the agency is supposed to communicate the termination to the temp. Sounds like the agency dropped the ball. I would call the agency up and ask them for some feedback about the situation, to help you with future jobs. It does stink being a temp and I am sure the termination had nothing to do with you. Could be that the project was ahead of schedule, they found a cheaper temp, some full time employee had extra time and was going to be transferred to the project... etc... there are a MILLION reasons. Temping is, well, temporary, so don't take it personally. They owed you a better explanation but the termination probably had nothing to do with your performance. Hopefully another job is waiting in the pipeline and will come along soon. Edited by vxf111, Feb 12 2009, 09:06 AM.
