Last night somebody (who shall remain nameless but isn't me) didn't let the dog out to pee before bed. I went to bed first so I didn't realize this was forgotten (dog went out at 8 but usually requires one more outting to sleep through the night). Normally this isn't much of an issue because Riley's a loud whiner and if he has to go in the middle of the night, he comes right by your head and whines until you get up. Well, last night, dog was in bed, smushed in between us all sleepy and happy. Around 2am, I felt him jump off the bed and then I heard liquidy noises....damned dog was peeing on the end edge of the bed! He never made any whines, he just got up and peed. A lot. Fortunately (I guess) most was on the carpet, but a good deal got onto the comforter. He's never done this before - in fact he's only ever had one indoor accident since we've had him (Christmas Eve 2007, when he peed on the above-mentioned nameless person's mom's leg...) The comforter is covered by a duvet cover, which I think despite it's claim to be dry clean only (this was a stupid purchase on my part), I can probably safely throw in the wash and then line dry. It's 100% polyester so it hopefully will survive...and if it doesn't, I don't like it so I won't be too sad. But how do you wash a comforter? A queen sized one. Of course, the previously mentioned nameless person who isn't me cut the tags off of it so I don't know what it's made of. Can you wash a comforter? In a regular washer/dryer? Dry cleaners? It's just on one corner, and not tons of liquid, but it still needs to be washed somehow! |

You could take it to a laundromat and use one of their giant washers. That's what I had to do when mine got kitty puke on it. Came out looking new! |

I would use Outright/Simple Solution and let that soak in and dry, then wash in laundry detergent on warm, gentle cycle and hang dry.

I second the giant washers at the laundromat. Better chance of getting it really clean. I will admit to going once or twice a year, later evening when the office is closed, to do Chaz's winter blanket. Hang to dry and back on him by the next day. All for $5

I used to use Outright, but I am told that Anti Icky Poo is the Way, the Truth and the Light by my vet colleagues. Anti Icky Poo Ridiculously expensive, but supposed to be the only thing that truly gets everything out. |

I've taken mine to the dry cleaners when that's happened in the past. Seems to get the pee smell out, although stains remain. |
