It's nearly time to register and brand my babies. I have named my colt TF Rory O'Moore after the Irish petty noble who was the principal organiser of the Irish rebellion of 1641. Rory suits his name - he's a troublemaker through and through, lol! But my filly is proving more difficult. Her paddock name is Aine. Aine was goddess of the Irish people who later became known as a fairy queen. I'm just stuck on deciding the name with which to register her. Any of you folk clever with names? She's an Irish Sport Horse, hence the Irish names. Help, I am hopeless with naming!!! Here is a pic to (hopefully) inspire you ...

OOOO a topic near and dear to my heart! I have my Keltic myth and majik book in front of me...lets see... Some of my favorites are: Aibell (AW bel or Ee-bel) means "most beautiful". She possessed a magical harp which did her bidding. Aibheaog (AWV-ay'ok) FIre goddess from County Donegal also known by the name of Tobar Brid (Brid is spoken "Breed"). THe waters of her mightly well held magikal healing powers. Aoife (also spelled Aife, pronounced Ee-FAH OR AW-fah) GOddess and queen of the isle of shadow, which she shared with her sister and rival queen Scathach. She commanded a legio of fierce horseman, RED (in Celtic, red is Ruadh...Roo-ah). I like Aoife Ruadh "Red Eva" Ailinn (Aw-leen or EE-leen)a romantic heroine who was the princess of Leinster. Worshipped in pgan lore with apple and yew branches. Aimend (Aw-mend or ee-mend)a minor celtic sun goddess. Andraste- (An-drast-ah) war goddess whose names mean "the invincible one". Bealtaine (Bell-taine)- part of the celtic (pagan) year...summer I think...perhaps spring? I always liked the name. Will look it up! Branwyn name means "fair one" she is often equated with the greek Aphrodite and is a goddess of love, sexuality and the sea. I like it!!! Caer Ibormeith (Kyair not sure on the last part!!) Goddess of sleep and dreams, a less violent version of Mare. She was the daughter of a faery king from Cannacht. Cessair (also, KAY-sawr, Cesara, Sesara, and Kesair) a member of the race known as the Partholans who were among the first to occupy Ireland. She is considered to be the first ruler of Ireland and is worshiped as a mother goddess figure. Corra A goddess of prophecy who usually appeared in the form of a crane. Similar Irish goddesses such as Aoife and Calle Berry also took this form and symbolized transcendent knowledge and transitins to the other world. MY persoal favorite for a Red mare: Ebha Ruadh Ni Murchu (EE-va ROO-ah Nee MUR-hoo) I fierce, RED warrior queen. Epona (Ay-PAWN-uh) Horse Goddess FINDABAR (FIN-ah-var) Same root origin as Guinevere. Means Fair Eyebrows or fair haired. Grainne (GRAW-nah) means "sunny". Was promised in marriage to Fionn, but at their wedding feast she saw Diarmuid and the magikal spot hidden under the hair on his forehead which wouold make any woman fall i love with him. Grainne Ni Malley (GRAW-nuh Nee MAAL-ee) pirate queen who preyed on English ships. She took lovers at will, a new one each year. legends say she and her court were invited by Queen Elizabeth 1 and plied with gifts to stop her from preying on English ships. Isolde (EE-solde) "one of fine hair" Heroine in the tragic tale of Tristan and Isolde. One of my FAVORITES!!! Daughter of an Irish King who was promised to King Mark of Cornwall. Similar to the legend of king Arthur and Guinevere and Lancelot.LeFay goddess of the seaand the Isle of Avalon. Morgan Lefay Daughter of LeFay, half sister of Arthur, possibly once the a goddess of Glastonbury Tor. Sea sprites who use their beauty to lure sailors to their deaths are called morgans after her. Oonaugh (OO-nah) faery wife of Tuatha leader of Finvarra. Rhiannon names translates to "Divine" or "great queen" She is a potent symbol of fertility and also a death goddess, a bringer of dreams, and a moon deity symbolized by a white horse. Tamara goddess of the river Tamar which divides the Duchy of Cornwall from the rest of England. She was a protective force and a water diety. Tryphyna (Troo-PHEE-nuh) Luna was actually namked this for a short time, but the spelling wouldn't work for us and we kept calling her "Trip nee ah" I think you cold change the spelling to make it more user friendly. She was a may Queen and I know her name means something like "she who rules the elements". SHe was given a golden ring by her family when she was married which would turn black if she were ever in danger. THose are my favorites!! Your filly is just STUNNING. You could call her "Texas BOund" and send her my way if you'd like. ![]() |
