I am at a point in my business where it is time to consider expansion. Certainly the economy is frightening right now, but it might just be the right time to get a great deal on property, etc. With that in mind, I want to get some input on what is important to everyone as far as boarding their horses. Most importantly, I want to know how far you would drive/travel to a barn that had everything you wanted at a good price. I ask that because clearly, the farther you go out of "town" (say Raleigh) the more land you can buy, etc. I guess I am looking for your "wish list" in a boarding barn, and a ranking of what is most important to you, etc. My business focus is on hunter and jumper show horses, and offering full care/services. That is the perspective clientelle I would like to hear the most from. Not that I wouldn't consider a different type of client as a boarder, but that is the main focus of my business. Thanks in advance for your input! Consider it market research! |

- big stalls - WONDERFUL footing in the rings (I'll give up a lot of other ammenities for good footing) - maintained hacking trails on the property for warm-up and cool-down - hot water in the tack room - washer/dryer for horsey stuff. Even a coin laundry is fine, but I like not having to schlep it home. - big enough tack lockers, and even better a place in the loft or shed for trunks. For distance travelled, I'm not in your neck of the woods, but I used to go 45 minutes. Not the best, but to get what I wanted it was what I had to do! |
