I will admit to having sat on him once, in December, on a day when he was looking relatively sound.... :teehee: He is very much my kind of horse under saddle!!
You sneaky thing....no pictures????? I was sure I responded to this thread but I had a day where my wireless was not working great and I guess it just did not go through.

He looks so happy and what a great story about nickering to you when you halter him. (My mare usually looks at me suspiciously and sometimes just pins her ears, no doubt expecting either the farrier or to be *forced* to exert herself. :mallet: ) I think the two of you wer meant for each other. Although the poor guy had to wait to find you....but you're making up for lost time...look at his smiling face!

The draft pony that I used to have was a "rescue"....basically no one wanted her and she hadn't been cared for, and when she came up dead lame she was "auction bound." Her teeth were terribly sharp and she had ulcers in her mouth. Isn't it amazing how stoic horses can be, though. While it was hard to tell that she was in pain and being so careful before the floating, it was really obvious after. She was much happier, and seemed to eat a lot faster and more comfortably. He'll come around. And if weight had been an issue, this will help too.

I am impatiently waiting for spring so we can see the new Win sans blankets, with shiny coat and all tacked up and you riding!! :)

Great job!!!!

Hey some more good news guys...

His previous owner is someone I know well, and have been friends with for a long time. Anyway when I took Win she was just desperate to get him off her property so it was literally a "he needs to leave within 12 hours" situation. All we had time for was a quick vet visit and then on the trailer he went.

I did not purchase him outright at the time, I was afraid to commit. I know that could have been a huge mistake, and it was all my own doing. It was so soon after losing Dan, I didn't know if Win would make it, and at the time I wasn't even sure I wanted to continue with horses.

But Win has grown on me. ;) Lately, I started to realize I could not give him up. I speak almost weekly with my friend, keep her update on his progress, etc. She's been kind of vague and unclear about her plans for him and I was starting to get worried she'd want to take him back.

HOWEVER... I just got an e-mail from her and she is officially retiring him to me!!!!!!

So now he will never be passed around again, he will never have to do another lesson, and he will have a long, stress-free retirement.... :)

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's awesome. Make sure you draw up a bill of sale for $1.00 and get it signed, just to cover yourself.

Yes good advice. I should have done it when he came, I just wasn't in the right frame of mind.

At any rate it was nice taking care of him tonight and knowing he is staying for good!! :cheer:

Aww thanks guys. You all have been so supportive through everything this past year. You guys are awesome, I am so thankful I stumbled upon this board. ;)

Win thanks you all for the good wishes, too. All the jingling and good vibes have undoubtedly helped him along!!

PS -- TBF, I promise to get pics once we start riding! One day in december we were all just standing there marveling at how he'd bounced back in the first two months, and we were like hmm let's throw a saddle on him.... I only rode about 10 minutes, walk/trot. He has a lovely, smooth trot and is the type that knows his stuff, if you know how to ask! ;) I've seen him pack kids around and his students always loved him, I understand why!

Can't wait to get back to riding....
