I would also like to add that for my 40th birthday, I was busy having Hope surgically removed. :teehee:

I'm not so sure why I find that so entertaining, but my poor daughter will spend the rest of her life living down the bad Hope puns her mother insists on making.

My husband, for the big occasion, splurged, and bought me a fax machine. No freaking kidding. He even asked ahead of time, and I said, "A fax machine?? I already HAVE a fax machine that I am just fine with! I DO NOT WANT A FAX MACHINE for my 40th birthday!"

He bought it for me anyway. Mostly because he didn't like the fax machine I already had and wanted a new one.

So, enjoy your 40th! No matter what you are doing it will likely be better than recovering from a c-section. Although I did have some good drugs. :teehee:

I loved Nova Scotia!
Any or all of the maritimes are gorgeous!

I haven't been to PEI, but I hear it's fab.

One of the prettiest places in Maine is Monhegan Island (I will go look for a website). The Puffins are so cute! A romantic island!
I'd also recommend Cuttihunk, Providence RI, Newport, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard (I saw the biggest shark of my life off of MV - a Basking Shark).

If you like to party and go out every night I can't help you. I like water, silence, a good book, and no neighbors practicing their musical instruments...

I just turned 40 in October and it's not that bad. I used it as an excuse to become more quirky and to wear louder colors and lots more jewelry.
Love it!! I'll be 40 in April as well.....I'm using it as an excuse to speak my mind. I'll eventually be one of those really opinionated old ladies that people just put up with because...well...they're old, right?

I have no great suggestions for vacation destinations. I always recommend Quebec City which is where we went on our honeymoon...but that's a fair haul driving from CT and not sure it's your idea of a "plane worthy" trip. :) We loved it, though, and want to go back. Such great food!!

I DO love Quebec City too...I went there for J-Term as a Freshman in college (Canadian Studies class!), but again, not sure it's "special enough" for me becoming an old fogie. What are you doing TBF, anything? We really should do a girls spa day or something! or better yet....wine tasting!

Good ideas all! We went to Key West in late June a couple of years ago, and let me tell you it was 100 degrees in the shade, so I am definitely nervous about the heat down towards the Carribean way :)

Woodstock VT - Lots of things to do, places to see, you can go fancy (Woodstock Inn) or cozy (Kedron Valley Inn). Check it out......So much to do and see in that area. Plus GMHA is there so you can take in a horse show if you really want to.

Arcadia Nationl Park in Maine on the coast - again lots to do and see.

oh no I'm not a party all night gal....wine and cheese hour is about the extent of my "partying" these days...I did say was turning 40 right? :)

You know...my hubby was thinking of Nova Scotia, but would it still be kinda cold in late June??

How about some hidden place in the Mid Atlantic area where it will be warm but not horrible? I've never been to the Outer Banks or anything....

It's perfect after mid-June. That's around when I went. Absolutely beautiful. You can drive the coast and it gets better around every curve.

The outer banks are nice too (call me, I'll buy you a drink), but in June I suggest you go North ;)

Just wait until you turn 50....you leave quirky behind and become odd......only wear what's comfortable.....and really don't give a flying f*** what anyone thinks!!!

Ask me how I know this???

My husband proposed to me in Nova Scotia, so I think of it as being quite a romantic place. We drove up through Labrador and took the ferry to Newfoundland (assuming Newfoundland is north of Labrador, as my brain struggles to remember things that happened so many long years ago). It was a great long weekend. :cloud9: He proposed on my birthday back on Nova Scotia, as we were heading home - that would have been my 37th, I think. That year, I got a wedding proposal for my birthday, and a big, honking pink rock that he plucked off the beach. :teehee: That would have been in September, and wearing fleeces pretty much all the time, if I do recall. I would imagine June is about as warm as it ever gets. Although I am just guessing.

To answer RMBs ( ;) )question, let's see, Hope was born on the 28th, so I would have been home on my actual b-day (5th of the following month), so I must have been lucky enough to have been in my own bed when that particular piece office equipment got dropped (metaphorically) in my lap. Good thing he didn't drag it to the hospital. I probably would have left it there. :sigh:

Hey, I am going to be 40 in late June as well! :psycho:

Though I probably won't go anywhere, as for everyone else, money is a bit tight and I want to save it for our family vacation in July.

RR - a c-section and a fax machine for your 40th??? Wow, I'll have to tell my hubby to top that one. :teehee: Just kidding - you have a great hubby anyway, and the c-section is totally out of the picture for me now anyway... had my last child at age 37. I'm done.

How about the Finger Lakes? We stayed in Skaeneateles (sp?) and the town was very cute with good restaurants. There are wine trails, lots of state parks for hiking, and of course lake activities. I think the Clintons went there for a vacation when they were in office. There was nice shopping with wonderful hand made pottery in Penn Yan. If you go to Corning, you can see the glass blowing and Ithaca is also a great town. Forgive my butchering all of the names as it has been awhile. You might also want to think about Lake Placid/Adirondacks. I have not been there, but it is on my list of places to go. Annapolis is also a fun area with lots to do. I went there with my husband soon after my 40th birthday and despite the fact that I had my horse euthanized the day we left, I have good memories from there. You might want to think about the Brandywine River area in PA/Delaware. You can canoe on the Brandywine, visit the Wyeth home, see Longwood Gardens (truly spectacular), have lunch at Simon Pierce overlooking the Brandywine river. The DuPont Hotel in Wilmington was gorgeous when I stayed there and had a great restaurant. Is Nantucket too much like Cape Cod/Connecticut? Again, that wouldn't be bad to get to and the weather would be wonderul. If CA is not too far away, I love San Francisco or Carmel. That might be too much for the time frame though. If you want to fly somewhere, maybe Chicago? The weather should be great there and I have heard it is a wonderful city - great architecture (Frank Lloyd Wright), shopping, and museums. You could try Nemacolin (again, I don't know the spelling) in western PA. You would have to check, but you might be able to see Falling Water and Pittsburgh too. I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice Pittsburgh was when I was there a few years ago. Mohonk Mountain House in the Catskills is fun and if you can splurge, try the Greenbriar in West Virginia or The Inn at Little Washington. Charlottesville, VA is always a good place to visit too - Monticello, UVA, nice town etc. Obviously, I spend way too much time thinking about vacations!
