need to find a home for my sister's dog

Let's see if I can make a long story short.

Sister and her husband are moving from NY to PA to take care of my mom, who has been miserable at the senior center where she's been living.

The apartment where they are moving only allows one pet, which is my mom's cat.

Sister had a large dog. Step daughters were supposed to get an apartment where they could take the dog, but decided (one week before these moves take place) they don't want her, so they found an apartment that doesn't allow dogs.

I can't take the dog, as much as I'd like to help my sister. She's asked those people who she trusts, and no one can do it.

I told her I'd reach out to the board to see if anyone would be willing to adopt a very sweet, but very large older dog. She's a mix of maybe rottie and shepherd? Around 6 years old.

Breaks my heart that this dog, who has been with them her entire life, can't stay with them.

Any ideas?

I'm so sorry. We just recently took in one of my sister's dogs. And RHowell also adopted one from my sister, bless her heart.  Maybe the power of TOC can find a home for your sister's dog too. :luck:

But honestly, assuming that the cat and dog would get along, I would be tempted to declare the dog as the one official pet, and sneak the cat in. At least until a good home can be found for the dog. It's not like the cat is going to be coming in and out of the building every day, so there's no reason that management would know it's there. I know it's a risk, but maybe one worth taking, given the circumstances? Unless, of course, the building also has size and/or breed restrictions for dogs.

Speaking of which, someone has started jumping the fence with such alacrity that I'm entering her in the puissance! Oh, she so loves to be naughty, but in an innocent way!

RHowell was one of the first people who popped into my head. She has a way of finding homes for needy critters.

OK, let me rephrase that. She has a way of making room in her home for needy critters. :teehee:

I think she already told the building manager about the cat - she thought the dog situation was settled with the stepdaughters.

The cat and dog do get along - they've been living together for over a year. When mom went into her current residence, she couldn't have her cat (who is really my son's cat, but he decided my mom was 'his' human) so my sister took him to NY.

And shhhhhhh....between you, me and the doorknob, they are already breaking the rules by taking 2 cats. Mom's and my sisters.

If she gets along well with tons of other dogs, my mom could probably take her or find room for her somewhere. Give her a call. Friends of Pep Rescue 570-842-4768. She's in Gouldsboro, PA.

Here's a link to some of her listings.

Oh.No. Let me guess -- she's jumping out to chase the horses. And mine has started digging under the fence -- to go eat horse manure, deer poop, cat poop, etc. :pissed: I'm actually glad that it's so cold right now b/c the ground's frozen and he can't dig. My sister owes us both big time . . .
