..knowing it will be going for surgery in a week? My mares ongoing 2 month totally sound on until a week ago "popped splint" was radiographed for the second time today and it turns out it's fractured. Verdict: surgery. Idiot me never renewed her insurance. Is it possible to get her insured beforehand so I can at least avoid taking out a loan? |

How out of date is your insurance? Some of the companies have a 30 renewal grave period per say. I think if you have to start completely over they probably wont cover it. But dont quote me. I would just call. |

It doesn't hurt to ask, but unfortunately the answer is usually no. They'd consider that a pre-existing condition that pre-dated the activation date of the insurance. I'd still call the agent and see what they say, though.

If they won't renew your lapsed policy, unfortunately I think you're SOL. A new insurance policy typically requires a vet exam, as well as a signed statement by you that you're not aware of any physical conditions that aren't dislosed on the application. So the fracture typically would have to be disclosed and would be excluded from coverage. |
