Thanks guys, well I did take her to the vet after she threw up but they can't really find anything wrong with her. She doesn't have a temp, she was negative for lyme and other tick bourne diseases, the vet said she had no pain down her spine or neck...her best guess is that it might be some kind of "pre-seizure" is what she called it. She's never had a seizure but she is 9 so I wouldnt be surprised if she started having some problems. Poor girl. They did blood work so I should know on Monday if there is anything wrong with that. They sent us home saying basically to watch her.....

I hope she's ok...she seems a bit lethargic to me but otherwise ok. Keep the Jingles coming please :(
Honestly seizure was my first thought.

Second was some sort of cold-related issue. Especially as an older dog, she may have some underlying heart issues developing and perhaps the cold is hard for her to tolerate. Sometimes older dogs with heart issues will have "spells" such as you described, that mimic petit mal seizures. Your vet should be able to do a EKG, I believe, to check heart function.

Anyway, good luck, will cross my fingers for her!

:jingles: :jingles: for Mina. I too think the paw thing is unrelated. In this cold my dog barely stays out 5 minutes and he comes in limping from frozen paws. Once he warms up he is fine.

I hope this passes soon, whatever it is!

well the good news is the blood work came back totally fine. The vet said "honestly it looks like she was just born!" which is good news for my old girl!

She has been acting fine so we are on a wait and see for now. Hopefully it was just a fluke occurance.

Glad the blood work came back normal. What a relief for you. When I read the post, my first thought too was seizure. Now I know that won't show up in blood work (sorry) unless there is a reason but usually there is not. My lab had two seizures about 9+ months apart. We have not seen one in over a year I hope I never see another one. Horrible to go through. Unfortunately they are not all that uncommon.

I forgot if you said how old your dog is. Another thought I just had, we had a older dog that had "mini strokes". These went on for years. Some were bigger than others, but most made her odd for a few hours then she would be ok. However after the "bigger" ones I would notice her hearing would not be as good, sight, motor skills etc. If you have others you may want to specifically ask the vet about that. My girl who had these lived to be 14 years old, she did finally have a big stroke and was paralyzed.

Sorry I am not trying to scare you. Please don't hate me. I just live every day hoping with my lab to never have another seizure. They ran all the tests and she could not be more normal if she tried. I hope you never have another experience with your dog that causes you worry.

This was one of my thoughts. how cold was it last night and how long was she out for?

At any rate, I hope she's okay.

Casey, you're absolutely right and I'm not assuming she's 100% ok now that the blood work was clean but short of doing an MRI of her brain for $1200, there's not alot we can do but monitor her. We also have no idea what happened to her because we didn't see it happen, just the after affects. He did say that she could be having these little "mini" seizures which only last a few seconds.

She is 9, just turned, and I live in fear that her days with me will be coming to an end soon. Frankly I'm just happy her blood work didn't show anything bad :)

This was last Friday night, and I *think* it was probably in the low 20s at that time, I don't think that day was particularly cold for us in CT. She wasn't out long, less than 2 minutes probably, so I doubt it was the cold...but who knows!

Nine is NOT an old dog!!! My golden is 12 she has LOTS of time left.

Don't "worry" if it is a one time incident. Just keep an eye out for what is normal so you know if something is abnormal. My senior runs and keeps up with my two younger dogs. She beats up the youngest they have a good time. As cold as it has been that could have been enough to trigger anything.

I also know what you mean about the blood work of a young dog. My senior had two procedures not too long ago that meant anesthesia (dental and knee surgery) in both incidents I got a call from the vet reconfirming her age. They said she did not have the blood of an old dog. Just keep thinking about that.
