so I let my 9 yr old lab out last night in the dark, we have alot of snow and ice still on our yard and deck but it's not particularly slippery, just about 3-5 inches of snow on top of a coating of ice. I went to let her back in and she was standing on my deck with snow all over her nose. i thought, aw, she was playing in the snow (she is 9 so she doesn't really "play" anymore). I try to call her in and she just stood there looking at me. I finally got her in and threw her the normal biscuit, which fell right by her nose but she couldn't find it (very rare for a lab). When I handed it to her, she wouldn't eat it and she picked up her left front and then right front paws as if they hurt her but I couldn't see any injury. She did not look herself at all...very shocky I guess is the best way describe her. Then suddenly, a minute or so later, it's like she was all better all the sudden, and perfectly normal. so weird....so scary... I'm guessing by the pain in her front paws and the snow on her nose, that she may have tried to jump up on the deck (which is not high) and upended herself. I dunno, can't think of what else she could have done....any thoughts? I hope she's ok...she was trembling last night in bed. My poor baby!! ETA: she just threw up her breakfast...barely even got it down before it was back up....now I'm really concerned. She never throws up Edited by MayaTy02, Jan 17 2009, 06:59 AM.

Oh jeez, no idea, but I really hope she's ok. Jingles. Perhaps a call/visit to the vet is in order? |

Was she out a long time? Did she get ice balls in her feet and when they melted, the feet weren't sore? Could she have gotten into something yucky outside and eaten it? I'd probably take her to the vet too, just to make sure. Better to get on it quickly, especially over a weekend. Hope they're open on Saturdays!!! |

I'm thinking maybe she fell....even though it wasn't especially slippery, especially with the shocky appearance and throwing up. I'd probably head to the vet to be sure. Poor Mina!! Let us know! |

Sounds very odd, especially with the throwing up this morning. I'd take her to the vet too. Labs very rarely throw up. |

Thanks guys, well I did take her to the vet after she threw up but they can't really find anything wrong with her. She doesn't have a temp, she was negative for lyme and other tick bourne diseases, the vet said she had no pain down her spine or neck...her best guess is that it might be some kind of "pre-seizure" is what she called it. She's never had a seizure but she is 9 so I wouldnt be surprised if she started having some problems. Poor girl. They did blood work so I should know on Monday if there is anything wrong with that. They sent us home saying basically to watch her..... I hope she's ok...she seems a bit lethargic to me but otherwise ok. Keep the Jingles coming please

Wow, you jumped right on this...that's good. Hope she has a good weekend and gets over this. So glad you got her to the vet's and had her checked. At least they'll have some info if she has further problems which, I hope, she does not!!! And just in case.

I was thinking more about this and thought maybe a seizure....and the paw thing might have just been the cold, and not related. My guys have been lifting theiir paws because it's so cold, too. Well, I guess I'm glad nothing is really obviously wrong, although it sounds pretty scary! Will the bloodwork be able to show if she had had a seizure? Poor Mina and poor you!

I guess the blood work will show if she has a thyroid problem which could cause seizures...I dunno! It wasn't my normal vet so I hope to know more when he's back on Monday. Right now she's sunning herself
