I know I'm whining, and it's much colder where y'all are, but you live places like Michigan and Canada- you signed up for winter. I live in Georgia for pete's sake!
Ya I live in Canada but I sure didn't sign up for this!! The parents dragged me here when I was three months old from the UK. If I was still single I'd be on the first plane to Australia! No one should have to suffer this cold :argh: !!!!!

It's minus 18 F with the wind chill this morning. Lovely :innocent:

And no, tarragon, I didn't sign up for this winter thing either. I was born into it :sigh: Although from March to December I usually do love it :cloud9:

I was actually raised in Germany and their winters were perfect. Light covering of snow at Christmas, gone soon afterwards. Go to the mountains if you want to see more

I dont know how you guys do it. I cant stand it and its 11 outside right now. Late lat night one of the big water pipes under the road busted and flooded out our entire road. Its like a giant ice skating rink now. Was very interesting trying to drive across it.

2 degrees here in NoVa this a.m., not accounting for wind chill. The dogs and horses seem to be having a fine time. Our lab thinks this weather is just grand and that we all should be outside romping and playing. And as long as he has his coat on, the hound dog is happy to oblige (hence our 2 mile walk this a.m. ) Both horses seem unfazed, and by the looks of their stalls when I came out to feed breakfast, they didn't come in at all last night. (They can come in and out of their stalls from the field as they please.) They definitely would take this over the bugs and the heat any day. Me, not so much . . . on our morning walk I got an external brain freeze for the first time ever! My face was so cold it gave me an instant headache, and I swear, my eyeballs hurt!

I hope you all come out of your Arctic Blast unscathed. Just do what I do.... start chanting I WILL NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE HEAT THIS SUMMER, over and over again.

We get a couple of really cold snaps here every winter, but we expect it and are pretty prepared for it. It's just what we expect.

I'm surprised Lost Farmer hasn't chimed in! He has REAL winter ALL winter!

People here are actually a little worried, it has been dry and sunny and in the 50's for a week. We really need the snow pack so we don't burn up in the summer.

It was 12 here though this morning ;) , but they (who ever "they" are) say it will be in the high 40's today though.

Hang in there, Spring will sprung.

It was 11* F last night, supposed to be 4 tonight (already down to 16, so I believe the 4 part). I know other areas have it so much worse and for much longer. I put on long undies this morning, tops and bottoms, first time this year! Several more layers, a hat and a hood, and I was good to go. Much as I hate it for the animals, they seem to be doing okay. I've been juggling animals around to be sure everybody has shelter and plenty of extra hay, which adds about 45 minutes to the late afternoon routine.

May get some snow ? on Sunday. If we do, I hope it's enough to get Monday off. Having said that, it won't snow. :tantrum:

In 60 days, it will be March 16, almost spring! :cheer:

We're at about 0 right now which is darn balmy compared to last night. Luckily my pipes have thawed and no bursting or breakage.....got a load of hay delivered today as well so we're pretty darn happy. I can't bring myself to look ahead, though. I'm hoping it will continue to get warmer but fear I will be driven to tears if I see colder temps for tomorrow night.

My horses survived well and are becoming steamy hot beet pulp afficiandos. ;)

Yes, even our fussy 32-year old that eats as slow as a glacier slurped up her warm hay extender/Triple Crown Senior slop in record time last night. Thankfully, b/c usually I have to stand there, hold the bucket and coax her to eat.

BTW, do you think horses can get senile in old age? B/c lordy, she certainly seems to get that "far away" look in her eye. Alot

Yes I think they can.. My friend had a 32 year old pony years ago and she would forget wherer she was in a pasture she lived in for years. You would have to walk out and let her see you and then a light bulb would go off and she would come cantering in.
On the cold note.. On a positive spin.. in 3 days we will be just inder the 2 month mark until spring! :innocent:  :one: :woot:

Ya I agree Sanny, I think they can get a tad senile as they age.

TBF, it's about the same here right now, but -18 with the wind chill. There's a windchill warning all day. And it's going down. Supposed to be -2F in the morning (-20F with wind chill) so now I have to figure out whether to teach tomorrow or not. I fear that at 10am it will still be rather frigid !! Brrrr.

But I rode for 30 minutes today, mostly a good forward stretchy walk with a bit of trot and a wee tad of canter both ways. Just a loosening up ride, snuggled under our cooler at the beginning and end. He's only had about 20 minutes of turnout in the last 3 days so I think it helps to keep him sane. I hand walked him for 20 min yesterday. I SO hope this breaks soon :argh:

Better yet Sanny, 43 days until I am in Florida :cheer: :woot: :martini: :martini: :martini: :martini: :martini: :cloud9:

Wow, I am a total wuss. I could not survive in those temeratures - my fingers get cold beyond usability at about 30 degrees!

It was about 70 degrees here in NorCal - a gorgeous day, to be sure, but I am most worried about our lack of rain. We live in a tinderbox area and were surrounded by fires last spring. We need rain!!!

Aright when you have to milk cows and do 2 hours worth of chores in -40 F before the wind feel free to whine. When you have to cut your beer with Jack Daniels to keep it liquid you know it is cold. LF

Wow, LF, I agree, I don't think it's that bad here. We are just not used to it. Even though we live in MI, where I am we are sheltered a bit by Lake Michigan from the extremely cold temps and I live in town, which helps. But you know it's bad when it sounds good that today's high is 18*F. Still very brrr for me. Plus when it gets too cold I can't breathe because of my mild asthma.

-12 here in Western Ma. this morning. I've lived here 20 years and this is the coldest morning that I remember.
