Sanny and I are in MI - they turned off the heat in Detroit - couldn't pay our gas bill. :innocent: ;) Our 401ks are now all 101ks.
I am right there with you two! I live in Livonia!

I went out to the barn tonight, oh no I did not ride. I just had to hang out somewhere after work until I went to the dog training facility to help there. I intended to ride but it was way too cold, and I didn't want to take Petie's blankies off. No one was at the barn, called BO and asked if I could turn him out in the indoor so at least he could move around I am supposed to ride tomorrow too, I already said I will not be there.

I don't do well in cold. It completely wipes me out. Once I get cold only crawling into bed warms me up, but once I go out to go to work I am cold again. I hate this time of year.

Keep warm my friends!

NO COMPLAINING FROM ANY OF YOU!!! It was a balmy -39C here in Ottawa - that does include windchill though....... when I did the online temp conversion that's -38F..... luckily I don't live in Winnepeg where we heard it was -50C or -58F.... :o

Oh come on it's not that bad - when spring comes we'll be dancing around in shorts when it hits 33F
(I'm on the northern MA coast - a wet cold that goes to your bones - you never feel warm)

Last year my daughters were riding their bikes on our first sunny "spring" day in shorts and t-shirts....it was 33 degrees. I wish I had taken a picture of them beneath the thermometer, but I thought it might just encourage them to do it again!

Just got in from checking on my poor horses. I have put out so much hay I'm sure they'll sleep in it and waste it all. And I'm not joking. I looked in their stalls [they have 24/7 turnout but can go in if they want] and they've each got about 1/2 bale spread out like straw bedding. And I've put the better part of a bale outside as well [for 2 horses].....I'm sure I'll be raking up a lot of it tomorrow. But it feels so cold to me. I'm willing to waste hay on nights like this. So what if they want to lay in it.....they should! It would be warm and comfy! And they could eat while laying down! :woot:

It's technically only -1 but it "feels like" -13 according to the weather channel, and going down. So to you Canucks, it's balmy, but this is really cold for us.

HOLY TOM!! You win! :o :o :o
I will not complain about the negative 2 right now and its not windy.
And folks Jaci is right, We northerners complain abour the miserable cold and snow, but I have lived 2 summers in houston, Abd it was many years ago, and I was a lot younger, but holy hell it was always hot, nights never cooled off, stil humid and in the 80s.
And I hear southern humidity is not to be believed in the summer.
IT will be spring soon. ;)

Where is Al Gore when you need him? (NOT for snuggling!)

I am without dog as well, but I did smuggle an illegal space heater into the dorm. Thermometer said 54 degrees INSIDE here. That's just not OK.

OH CRAP!!! The furnace quit at 11 PM tomight.... it was 16 below zero at that time. :censored: So have had to crank up the woodstove in the living room and have all the faucets dripping. With 2 woodstoves going we will not freeze overnight but the furnace was what kept the pipes from freezing in the cellar.. :tantrum: Going to be up all night keeping them both fed :shoot:

Edited from my previous post...Will NOT kill Mr macmtn as Hawaii Hawaii sounds pretty good right about now... :duh:

I use to live in Livonia. The year I left Michigan the air temp around Detroit was -20!! Wind chill was -80!!! That was 1994, January. I didn't wear a coat here for the first two winters. Typically it's around 40 and raining. I'm now south of Seattle.

OH NO!!!! MY worst nightmare, I know exactly what you are going through.
Ours did it last year. And its only 8 years old. We too have a woodstove thank god,
and when ours has gone out, I slep on the couch and kept waking up to feed it.
But 16 below! Holy moly.
Praying your furnace guy gets there first thing this morning.
JACI! I 'm sorry No spring for you. Cooler temps for you .. warmer for us! I wll put in an order! ;)

Now I know it can be much worse. I spent a winter in MN (outside Minneapolis) once was enough of that! I do not like winter. Because I hate winter with a passion, you will NEVER hear me complain about the heat, sometimes I might comment about the humidity but I would MUCH rather have it over 100 than what it is today.

My poor doggies their feet can't take it. My senior golden she gave up a couple days ago. We have to physically make sure she leaves the porch to do her business. My young golden, this is really her "first" winter to experience. She has been loving the snow and the snowballs she get in her feet. They are her personal ice cubes. However starting yesterday she started showing discomfort about the cold. Today my lab the tough dog started limping and not wanting to put her feet on the ground. Tonight we will take the two goldens to Petsmart for a walk, tomorrow I have an agility trial with my Lab so she will get plenty of exercise over the weekend. We are supposed to be back in the 20's tomorrow. I hope we get home tomorrow in time to take the other two for a long needed walk.

Casey Well will think its hot in the 20's!
My shepherd used to be like that when it got this frigid. She was tough as nails but would act like a cripple on mornings not move.. hold her fet up.. lay down.
She would have liked me to carry her. CAnt say as I blame them.
OH hurry up spring! (Sorry Jaci) ;)

-12 here right now. But the sun is out so I'll take that over the wind; not sure what the rest of the day will bring but I'm stoking the wood stove and worrying a little about the pipes in my bedrooom.....no hot water ran in there this morning which is a little scary.....it's working everywhere else, though, so I'm hoping it's just a little slow in there. Not going to mess with it now and get the house warmer instead...maybe just a little ice crystal somewhere. (We have an addition to our room built over an empty "patio" and it has radiant heat floors......seems a little dangerous in the design since there is no warm basement under that floor...just -12 air.....:luck: :luck:)

Horses got hot beet pulp again and came galloping in for it. PUt their hay out in the sun and hoping they feel a little warmer now.

Okay, I'm officially ready for the cold snap to be over. It's 9 degrees here. Temperatures should not be single digits, it's just not right.

I know I'm whining, and it's much colder where y'all are, but you live places like Michigan and Canada- you signed up for winter. I live in Georgia for pete's sake!
