I tried on some mens sevens the other day (don't ask) and I really liked the fit. Might try some in the size that would fit me and see if they look decent. I hate low rise jeans, but amongst the low rise ones, rock and republics are my favorites.

Jeans are such a personal thing...I am short at 5'3", but RIGHT on the line between regular and petite sizes, so I literally go shopping with a measuring tape in my bag. A 32" inseam is exactly long enough to look good with most of my heels. ;) Plus, a lot of jeans gap at my waist, so I need something that's not boy-cut.

So for kick-arounds, I like AE, and for my "nicer" pairs I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mavi jeans. Michael Kors also work, depending on whether I can find the right cut.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Armed and ready to shop now....

I loved the Gap jeans - but getting 2 yrs out of a pr is not long enough for me. :mallet: I got them on sale, IIRC, but they were still $30 and they 1st ripped out at the belt loops (?????) and the both right butt cheek pockets seams split. :mallet:

I used to wear Wranglers, but the shape (okay okay MY shape) changed, and I seemed to get ones with the seams going over my knee, not next to it and that HURT!

I was buying Cruel Girls on sale for $20 - $40 but now the on sale price is $50+!!! :pissed: They last longer - I wear out the seat in them riding - not ripped seams or belt loops, but I'm cheap.

I had a couple prs of Guess jeans - loved them - used for $20.

I was trying to hold off buying until i lost a couple more lbs - I've lost 5 so far, 10 more to go!!! - but at the rate they are trashing that is not gonna happen. :lonely:

Ride 'em - you sound shaped like me! I' 5'2" too, and on the fence on regs/petite - but I like a longer inseam cuz I hate my socks to show when I sit down or ride. I get gap with low rise - and I work with 90% males.

Mavi hmmmm.....off to Google

I LOVE my J.Crew jeans, and any pants from Banana Republic. You can almost always find jeans on sale there too., especially if you are near an outlet where they are super cheap. I think they come in a short as well - would make sense since they're a 'Gap' brand. But I LOVE my J.Crew jeans. They were kind of expensive ($80ish) but they fit me so much better and look much nicer than my $$$$ jeans (which may be because they're all too small at the moment :sigh: )

Did I mention I love my J.Crew jeans?

I Love Love Love Lucky Brand Jeans! I have sensitive skin and Lucky's are the softest around, granted you can wear through them in 2 years, but I love them non the less. They have all sorts of cuts. Right now I have the low rise, one boot cut and one skinny leg, I finally got a pair of the really dark denim ones, and I love them!

I use my old blown out lucky's for riding, and they are awesome. I know what you mean about the seam crossing your knee, and I have never had that happen with the luckys.

I too am 5'2" and am very petite and they have always fit perfectly, they are a tad long but I cuff the bottom or just let them drag a bit for that worn out look! :teehee:

Jeans are something that I think can easily be justified shelling out some dough for, well at least for me. I LIVE in jeans or lived in jeans! Currently my jeans are from Motherhood Maternity and they have a lovely elastic waistband that goes up to my boobs. Stylish? Perhaps not. Great for around the holidays? Couldn't be better! I do remember a time though where I could buy jeans my favorite brand that fit me better than anything were Mavi's and I love Lucky's too. For kick around jeans I had some random hand me downs and used old Mavi's mainly.

JTM got me wearing the Banana Republic jeans and I really like them. Fit wonderfully.

However maybe I will go and get some of those maternity ones that At Last wears. for the special pig out evenings

DQ, are you sure you are only 5'2"? In my mind you are 5'7". Funny how you picture people. That happened with Jilli too for me. I think I must imagine everyone to be taller than me :innocent:

congrats on the 5 pounds :woot: Way to go!!!

I have the worst problem shopping for jeans. I 5'8" and am kind of thin. I wear between a 5 and a 7 and cant find anything slim enough yet long enough. Im a boot cut person, and like my jeans to touch the ground in the back or at least come close. I also dont like my butt crack to hang out when I sit down but dont want them up to my armpits. Kohls jeans work great for me and are relatively cheep. For riding I swear whatever I can find under $20 that are stretch.

I live in New York and Company West Side Platinum jeans. Low rise 'cause I have no waist, boot cut 'cause me in straight legs is not pretty, and Platinums because even though they're $5-10 more, they have stretch and I think wear better. My oldest pairs are three years old and have only now started to wear out in the crotch (which is what I get for riding in them every day. I abuse jeans horribly, so three years is really good for me.) They cost about $30 a pair, but because New York and Company is almost always holding sales, if you go in at the right time you can get them for $10. I got six pairs for $5 apiece once. Unfortunately the Tall size is a little long and the Regular is a little short; I ride in Regulars and save the Talls for when I need to actually look like a human being. One of these days I'll hem them. I keep saying that.

For heels and dressier occasions I have a pair of DKNY boot-cuts that are higher waisted and a tighter fit.

Do you guys have Plato's Closet near you?? We have a bunch of them in WNY. It is all second hand stuff but trendy labels. I've been able to find all kinds of jeans there, and CHEAP!!!

I love Plato's Closet--I get a lot of my riding polos from there. Unfortunately I have a weird shape so it's hard to find jeans there.

JTM-I agree!! I LOVE my JCrew jeans. I buy the matchsticks and love them. I have jeans and cords. They seem to hold up really well too.
I just love JCrew.  Banana is a close second.

My rationale is that I spend less on jeans than I do on breeches (although I sale shop for those too!) and I buy my saddles used so they already have wear on the pommel.

Hey Renn, you say the NY jeans in tall are long, how tall are you? Maybe I should go try some on.

JTM, I swore I was going to start riding in breeches with half chaps last spring. Its just not reasonable for me to do it though. I ride between 3 to 5 horses a day at work. Then I do barn work. I really dont want to be wearing barn work in breeches. My saddle is good leather, its not the super expensive french or other leather, but its sturdy and has held up for 11 years with no holes in it yet.
