I believe that RHowell is our resident fancy jeans expert -- that's what I recall from the other thread.

But since I'm a tight wad and can't stand trying on pants, I usually go with tried and true Levi's 550 relaxed cut jeans. Cheap, and I know exactly what size to get. The only place I can find them around here anymore is Sears. HOWEVER, on a recent trip to Sears, I walked on the wild side and bought some Lee stretch, relaxed fit jeans, which I'm loving. I bought them for riding b/c they're cheap (under $30), so I didn't care how they look on me and didn't even try them on at the store. But when I put them on at home I was thrilled and delighted -- they're flattering and super comfy. Totally worthy of wearing out in the real world. They sit "just below the waist" as the tag says. A little lower than my Levi's, but not butt-crack, muffin top, low. I would say that they hit about two fingers below my belly button. At my age and shape, anything lower rise than that ain't pretty. I ride in straight legs b/c it's easier to stuff them into half-chaps. But my going out in public jeans are a mix of straight leg and boot cut. I like to wear straight legs with flat shoes and sandals, and boot cut with heels or . . . well . . . boots.

I LOVE the $$$$ jeans, but can't bring myself to spend the money on them. I hunt for brands like Guess and Parasuco at Winners (our TJ Maxx), and can usually get them for $40-50.

Personally prefer: lower rise (I'm short waisted, and don't want Grandpa pants), boot cut. Although I do have some skinny jeans I love tucking in boots. Gap used to make a style called "long and lean" that looked like much more expensive jeans.

I recently went on a bit of a jeans buying spree as everything has been on ridiculous sale around here. My favorite favorite favorite everyday jeans are Joe's Jeans "Muse." They are not super low waisted, which makes me happy, and they're long enough if I get motivated to wear heels (I'm tall). I bought some Gap bootcut jeans for the barn, and they are actually super cute. I also really like my hudsons for cute casual jeans, and bought some J brand skinny jeans to tuck into boots and love them! All (obvi except the Gap) are available at any upscale dept store. I'm cheap, so I bought most of them at the outlets here in NoVa for about $60-70/pair (lucky enough to have both a Saks and Barneys outlet). I did go to Bloomingdale's in NYC this past weekend, and they had most of their designer denim marked down to 30% off, which isn't quite outlet prices, but better than the $160-250 full price retail.

In the past, I have bought several pairs of Sevens, which I love, but they don't seem to hold up that well once I start riding in them. I have also had Citizens of Humanity & Rock and Republic, and both were too low waisted for me to ever really love.

I go to tractor supply and buy wranglers. They are boot cut with some stretch. Super comfortable to ride in, they actually fit around my waist and they are less than $30! I liked them so much I actually bought a longer length and wear them as my everyday jeans as well. I just cant see spending tons of money on clothes, especially since I am a nurse.

Levi 515 bootcut for me. Comfy. Great fit. Medium rise and a bit of stretch. About 40-50 bucks per pair and they last a long time.

I love love love my AE jeans. Have you bought any new pairs since they changed the names/cuts? The old Artist style fit me perfectly. They told me the new bootcut style is the same but I'm worried it won't be. :lonely:

I LOVE Citizens. I live and die by them. They just seem to fit my curves very well. The 7's never did it for me. However, I did get them at a deep discount at the clothing store that I used to work at, so I don't know how soon I will get a new pair.
I also really like the Lucky jeans and they seem to be working out okay but I mostly use them for riding now.

Old Navy!! Cheap and lots of different fits. Personally, I like boot cut or flare, but that part is really personal preference.

Edited to add, a HUGE reason why I shop at Old Navy is because they have "short" lengths. Gap has "ankle" length, too so I have a few pairs of Gap jeans.

I wear only men's jeans. I have a really short upper body, so most women's jeans come up to my boobs and the women's low rise ones are a bit too low rise. Men's jeans are just right.

I buy them at the Salvation Army. Wednesday is 1/2 price day and you can get really nice jeans for $2.99. Other days they are $5.99.

I buy just about all my clothes and books at the Salvation Army. I've gotten so many great buys there, that now I just can't spend real money on clothes.

Do you guys have Plato's Closet near you?? We have a bunch of them in WNY. It is all second hand stuff but trendy labels. I've been able to find all kinds of jeans there, and CHEAP!!!

I'm a total slacker when it comes to fashion, at least, when it comes to spending money on fashion.... I'd rather spend it on horse stuff!!! ;)

wow some of you gals pay lots of $$$ for jeans! I ususally get mine second hand from friends but whe I buy jeans it's fit and price I consider. I don't believe I have spent more than 20 for a new pair of jeans. Personally being a bit short waisted I do like the just below the waist style (cause I'm old I really cannot wear the low rise without looking nutso). My Fav are levi signatures that sit just below the waist, are boot cut and comfy - I bought these NEW at jcpenney for $15 right before Xmas.

so I'm not much help - I'm frugal and not fashion conscience
