Hi,
We moved to a new farm last March and are finally ready to start building a new barn and ring - I'm looking for any suggestions (good or bad) for local barn builders and/or ring builders in the Richmond, VA area - we are North of Richmond about half way between Fredericksburg and Richmond.

Thanks for any help

I can't help you much on the barn building front, because we did ours ourselves. There is a company called Barn Builders that occasionally has signs beside the road-- they have a 540 phone number. They just built a gorgeous barn on Rt. 522 in Powhatan, there may still be a sign there. Other than that, try a local building contractor-- many who used to only do houses will now do barns, garages, etc because business is so slow. As long as you know what you want, even if they're not experienced in barn construction, they can probably do it for you. My hubby built ours without ever having done one, and it's really nice, a 36x36' 4 stall center aisle. (He had built a lot of houses but no horse barns.)

I just got a quote on an arena from a guy in Goochland (where I live), his company is called Draper Excavating. He seems really nice and I know several people who used him for their arenas that were happy with them. Not sure what area/county you're in but your best bet otherwise would be to ask owners of neighboring farms who put theirs in.

Good luck! I've had my barn for two years now with no arena... will be so happy when I can get mine in this spring! :)
