I am looking for a relatively inexpensive place to weekend as a last vacation before my baby. I am in Northern Virginia and would like someplace scenic, quiet, relaxing and if there is a spa - not a bad thing! No spa necessary though!!!! ;-) Any favorite spots? I want it to be someplace I can drive, I don't feel like dishing out the money for airfare.

Cape Cod is very pretty in the winter and inexpensive

Tangier Island
Smith Island
Assateague and Chincoteague

I recommend camping! You can "car camp" in your area really cheaply.

Also beautiful, and easy for you, is the entire NC coast.

I sailed into St Michaels many moons ago. Nice town! There's a nice place on the water you might like:

Ooh, you'd like St. Michaels! It is lovely there, very Annapolis-y. I don't know about pregnant camping between now and the beginning of April, it's likely too cold and you'll be uncomfortable enough as it is... ;)

You could go to Yogaville, but their pregnancy yoga programs aren't until mid to late April.

How about Williamsburg ( http://www.discoverspas.com/Virginia/vakingsmillr.shtml )? Or Berkeley Springs WVa?

We went to Chincoteague this summer and it was absolutely wonderful (okay, getting the ring-bling that weekend helped too). I don't know how it'd be this time of year, but it was so much fun - even if all the ponies hid from us. We hiked and rode bikes and had a great time. We stayed at a fantastic B&B too, with the best breakfasts I've ever had. And they have a massage service that can come right to your room too.

I would do the Cape. Unless you are looking for tropical, the Cape is lovely and quiet in the winter. The Wellfleet/Eastham/Orleans area is my favorite.

This may not be driveable for you but would be a great getaway, and has a spa. Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz NY. It'd be very easy to get to from NOVA, but probably around 6.5 or 7 hours. www.mohonk.com

It's a FAVORITE with me and my gal pals.

I was thinking along the same lines as BH, if you want to go to the beach -- Eastern Shore of Maryland, Northern Neck of Virginia, or for a slightly longer drive -- Outer Banks in NC. I love going to the beach in the winter.

But if you want woods and fairly easy but beautiful hiking or snowshowing (not sure how far along you are in your pregnancy), about two hours from NoVA is the Savage River Lodge in Garrett County, MD (off of I-70). They have a website, which I think is www.savageriverlodge.com. It's rustic, but beautiful, very relaxing, and pet friendly. Not cheap, but not outrageously expensive. It's located in the middle of a National Forest. There is a main lodge building with a pretty good restaurant (breakfast and lunch are better than dinner), bar and several fireplaces with cozy seating, where you can curl up and read a book, play cards, etc. The DH, dog and I went there for a four-day weekend last winter and had a fabulous time. We just stayed put and hiked, read, ate, had cocktails, played board games, napped, and had more cocktails. I think I might have gotten bored if we had stayed longer -- I think it's probably better for some R&R than a week-long vacation, although there are some "attractions" in the surrounding area that would make fun day trips, like Falling Water, the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Deep Creek Lake also isn't far away.

The first place that came to mind was St. Michaels. I used to love going there as a child/teen with my parents. I know, I'm weird. :)
