Anyone have any author/book recommendations??? I'm a sucker for a good historical novel. It doesn't have to be a heavy read, just reasonably well written, and reasonably historically accurate! I grew up reading my mother's collection of Georgette Heyer, MM Kaye, Jane Aiken Hodge etc... I have been known to read the odd bodice ripper, but will deny it in public

Phillipa Gregory - I've got everyone in the barn reading her books! I just finished "I, Mona Lisa" by Jeanne Kalogridis, which was pretty fantastic as well. |

I *heart* historical fiction!! I just read a whack, but they were all small series, and I can't just recall any of the authors right now... however, for lighter side, there is Judith Tarr (mostly sci fi, sci-fi historical, plus a few historicals, but she is a horse person too) and for the extreme lighter side of grrrreat bodice-rippers (to which I would NEVER admit to being addicted dahhhling) and a zillion great historicals, there is the awesome incomperable Victoria Holt/Jean Plaidy etc etc... if you dont' know who I mean, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Plaidy. I love literature, but I love her too!!! |

I liked Innocent Traitor by Allison Weir. Its about Lady Jane Grey-the nine days queen. I also just read The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. Both were good. |

I just finished Mistress of the Sun. It's about one of Louis XIV's mistresses. I liked it, but can't say I LOVED it. I, Elizabeth is hands down one of my favorite books of all time. Forever Amber, also a favorite. Some others: All Men Are Mortal The Bastard, The Rebels, The Seekers, etc...the whole John Jakes series - although I think the first two are the best. |

My grandmother loved that book. When she gave me her copy, she told me about how scandalous it was when it came out. Sadly, that copy of hers was in bad shape when she gave it to me and it didn't last long. But I recently got a new copy at the library book sale! |
