I Visited Candy Mountain and All I Got Was This Lousy Incision

I guess I'm one of the "rare posters," but, hey, you can't be "everywhere." The short version is that she had to leave a live-in job in a hurry (red flag #1-but we paid it no heed, as she was "Mellie," and well thought of by my friends), needed to get the move made (red flag #2 was when I pulled into the driveway with truck and 4-horse, and saw that she had a lot more stuff than I had been prepared for, like a houseful, when I expected a one-room studio full), needed a place to stay (horses, dogs, every possession she had). She came to my farm. Nearly a month later, her horses were still with me, and she had a board bill (she offered to pay board when she left the horses behind). She stealthed into the farm, loaded up (taking an extra item or two, nothing significant, but the old sheet she took actually belongs to another boarder), and left without paying. She stiffed my vet for fall shots, too. She gave me the old "check is in the mail" line. But the other side of her mouth was wailing to mutual acquaintences about how I had "scammed" her by overcharging her on the board. Anyone is, of course free to form your own opinions. I have mine, and I'm sticking to it. Edited by M. O'Connor, Jan 9 2009, 05:54 AM.

Yes, it is. I would rather have been warned; I'm sure others feel the same. Do, feel free to give her the benefit of the doubt--we all did, sadly enough. At least you are now forewarned. Edited by M. O'Connor, Jan 8 2009, 12:07 PM.

I am not disbelieving anyone's recounting of their personal experiences with Melliebay. My own feeling is that, while a public thrashing is most likely deserved, it is still painful to watch. |

post deleted - I realize this is a public forum, but I had no intention of my story being copied and pasted on other sites without my knowledge.

Hugs to all who are involved - on both sides. As a community grows things happen - both good and bad. How we deal with these situations is what defines us as a community. I am glad to see that most posts are thoughtful and mostly respectful with very little name-calling. KUDOS being a PollyAnna I give people the benefit of the doubt way too often and I am not a good judge of charater (mostly of men) - hey that's what got me into such trouble with the live-in leech I finally kicked out last year. Sometimes you only see and hear what you want to. |

I tend not to get involved in these types of commentaries because, well, no one wins. It is very sad, for everyone. Sad for the people who were hurt directly by a persons actions and sad for those, like many of us here, who for lack of a better phrase would be innocent bystanders. I am not going to condemn her. I do not have first hand knowledge of what she has done. Nor am I going to ask for her side of the story because I have learned that there are never two sides in a story like this. There are in fact three -- yours, mine and the truth. While I appreciate the heads up, even though unlikely that she would ever head this far north, I personally wish this recounting of all of the mis-deeds would stop. I have been in this business too long and have been involved with someone who was doing and is still doing similar things to what has been described above. And, I have been wrongly accused of similar things here, by people who don't even know me, or knew my personal circumstances at the time. I have even had people come up to me at horse shows and offer their SYMPATHIES to me on my diagnosis with a life threatening disease, all based on the fact that I had lost a ton of weight at the time. So I guess what I am trying to say is that while we may want to understand what and why, we may never learn what and why and to please just leave it at that before this meadow starts to blaze. |

Personally, I find this whole thread and it's content very unsettling. Things have come into light that directly affect me and several friends. I hope that everything gets resolved at some point, but in the interim Mellie needs to stand up and face all of us... and be accountable for her actions. |

Hiya! Hiya!I came over here after a regular on here emailed me about this discussion. Mellie has been a much loved friend to many. She is funny, smart, witty and more. We all liked her so much. We just didnt know what to make of it. We knew she had been having hard times. But she has not come forward with her side or any explanation. What are people to think when they get completely stonewalled. At first it was 'in two weeks'. Then it was no response. And then it was to unfriend any of the group who emailed her. I am not sure what Cindeye was referring to but actually this first came out in November. We have been trying to talk to Mellie since November, but the lightbulb didnt really come on until sometime around Christmas week when all the other people started coming forward with their experiences. Perhaps that is what Cindeye meant. I do agree that this is a very uncomfortable thread. I do agree that there are two sides to every story. I do know that we cannot get the other side of the story, or the gift(s) or the money or an explanation as to where it all went. Everyone has dark times in their lives. If this is what it is, then I wish she had just come forward and said so in explanation. But that has not happened and many people are out a significant amount of money and their friendship has been dropped when asking. And that's the gist of it. It is all around very sad, and I do feel uncomfortable about this post. But in the nature of being forewarned, it is a good thing I guess. |

Okay okay okay...I must just take a moment to say, "...R I G G S Y!!!!!" To lighten the mood I am so glad to hear from some folks who have been absent and MUCH missed!! (Did Fred-o see her shout out from me on the previous page??...I would hate for her to feel like chopped liver) I myself have eaten an entire Lindt chocolate bar with hasslenuss. Nothing like a little chocolate therapy to ease the pain. |
