After an entire weekend of trying to get a vet to call me back, I said screw it and called the University in Gainesville. He went down today and they decided they would like to keep him over night. Pretty much as dumbfounded as me as to what he has wrong because his sinus infection that we confirmed is completely unrelated to this other issue and we saw an abnormality on one of his kidneys. I don't know if I want it to be a tumor or not because it would explain a lot but then it would stop everything dead in its tracks. If it's not then we have to do more radiographs and chest taps and those are getting into the bigger $$$$. I should have gotten the insurance on him last November rather than waiting... But I do have an idea! Planning on starting a fundraiser, making some calls to people I know to donate... Because come on, how can anyone say no to this face?! ![]() Of course everyone is impressed with him. They are completely amazed that here is a stallion who does not need a chain, will not call to neighbors, will not prance in front of the fillies, needs very little sedation for all the little poking and prodding on BOTH ends and is perfectly content with a flake of hay in the back of the stall while my daughter and I sit on the floor playing in the shavings. He is truly something very special.

The jingles are working! The vet can't feel any tumors on the abnormality on one of his kidneys and with the normal blood work he says it is unlikely to be a kidney disease. However we still have fluid in the lungs that need a chest radiograph to see if there are any tumorous masses. Pretty much we are on a cancer hunt and so far nothing is showing up. |

I was going to pick him up today but with the weather as it is and a TORNADO warning, I said to just keep him another day. I would much rather spend the $32 day board than having a major accident with the trailer. |

He is home! And he gained 46.2 pounds!!!! Turns out it cost a little over $80 a day but I guess that had to do with him being a stallion and on a LOT of food. I am just so happy he's home, I really missed him. Brydelle, this is what his discharge papers say about the pleural effusion: 5) Thoracic radiographs demonstrated a generalized mild broncho-interstitial lung pattern most evident in the ventral lung fields. An increased area of opacity consistent with pleural effusion was identified in the cranioventral lung field. I was pretty much sent home to treat the sinusitis with TMS and flushes. They didn't float his teeth because they wanted to wait until the sinusitis was cleared and it would take a few floatings throughout the following year to get them down to normal. That's taking the conservative route I believe. My dentist will get him pretty close so that appointment is made for January. I am waiting for a friend of mine to get online so I can make sense of all these terms, I have not gotten that far in my vet tech studies yet! |
