I Visited Candy Mountain and All I Got Was This Lousy Incision

I was told that there were virtually no vendors there at all.

Very few vendors and they aren't even selling Middleburg HS shirts, etc. I was told that the lawyer for the owners said if someone was wearing a middleburg shirt and got hurt, they could sue the owners. The person that told me this rolled his eyes upward and shook his head! The silent auction was very small also - maybe 10-12 items.

OK, inventory of vendors: wooden home interiors (?), productions east, coffee lady, show day cafe, champion saddlery, l'apogee, a shoe person, an antique person, duarry boots, 2 random clothing places, and a really odd tent that may or may not be selling something.

Not that I enjoy the shopping as much as showing, or anything like that. Auction is very disappointing this year, but the change of venue has thrown everything off big time. I could swear I saw middleburg shirts. Maybe just for the weekend?

No real vendor selection whatsoever!

So, after a miserable Kentucky, Chammie decided showing might not be so bad after all. :innocent:

The footing was so hard I might as well have been cantering over jumps on rt. 50 BUT he jumped well and was relaxed and very rideable. I thought the day might not work out so well when I hand walked him in the grass ring and he REARED on the line. Good grief. :o

But a few minutes on the lunge line served him well and he walked in the ring all business. The first trip was good except he hit the first jump lightly and then knocked the last jump (right in front of the judges) right out of the cup. I completely missed to the first jump in the second class, so I didn't think either class was even remotely pinnable....but everyone else's trips must have been fairly horrific as well because I did actually get called back for the jog in the first class. Too bad my horse was happily eating his dinner, all unbraided and wrapped! :teehee:

Anyway, I was just so happy that my little baby 4 year old was happy to do his job again. He was so stressed and upset in KY!!

Mizzwade, I thought I heard your name for the jog?? If so, congrats!

Hi Armandale - I can't believe I missed you. We skipped the Adults and did the Child/Adult in the sand ring and were fine. Mistakes in each class though. It was fun!!

and Atlast, I just saw your avatar....you know I'm a fan of both the rider and the horse...but you shouldn't be promoting riding two year olds without a helmet
Was that really necessary? Seriously.... :sigh:

Congrats to everyone who did well!!! Hopefully the managers will get things sorted out for next year.

When I appoint you my keeper, I'll be sure to send you a memo.

But since you asked, yes, I do think it was.

Sorry, RH....I thought this was a thread about Middleburg Classic, not "please give me your unsolicited critique on my avatar."

Whatever.......

P.S. - I have no desire to be anyone's keeper, especially yours - way too much to clean up.

P.S.S. - So, RH, am I to understand that you received a memo from AtLast about being HER keeper?

Can y'all please keep the personal attacks off this board? I made an offhand comment about her avatar, which wasn't a personal attack on HER. As I said in the post, I love the horse and rider. For those of you who missed the memo, the horse in the photo is the younger half sibling to two of my horses that At Last bought and she sent her horse to the same person who broke the last one for me (person in the photo)....so, I'd say that At Last does a pretty good job of showing that my opinion is taken into consideration or so her actions would indicate. I apologize to the rest of the posters that suggesting that it's not good to promote irresponsible riding practices gives the goons their field day to jump on me personally, which despite their protestations I know they do enjoy. I happened to mention it where I saw it and, for that I am sorry. Certainly didn't mean to take attention away from Nardeen's glorious show.

how were the trophies this year? same gorgeous hand painted plates?

Nope, the trophies were engraved paper weights. No beautiful hand painted plates this year. Maybe next year :)

Seriously? No plates! Oh rats! I loved those. But I guess you and Ice have your share already :teehee: I did love those plates though--it was such a nice touch....so few horse shows do old fashioned trophies these days!

Please don't flatter yourself. I felt bad for AL because I don't think she was promoting any kind of irresponsible riding practices. She's just a proud mama who wants to show off her baby. She shouldn't have to feel bad about which photo she chooses to use for her avatar. And she shouldn't have to get anyone's blessing on which photo she chooses to use. That's all I'm sayin'.
