So tonight we have our first Devon Souvenirs meeting and I want to come prepared with some great new ideas. I am supposed to be focusing on the "equine" souvenirs (as opposed to the clothing) but I can really bring any ideas. We'll, of course, be doing all the usual stuff like pins, mugs, tee shirts, etc. Here's my current list of ideas....

-Embroidered saddle pads with the Devon logo (I am thinking pastel and basic colors, and hopefully nicer pads than last year)
-Embroidered baby Pads
-Embroidered polo Wraps
-Polo wraps with grosgrain ribbon (a la equine couture, only with the Devon logo ribbon)
-Saddle pads with ribbon (ditto)
-Galoshes/rain boots (I am thinking baby blue and/or navy rubber boots with either one big Devon logo or with the logo all over-- like those nifty colorful joules type boots)
-Dog collars/leashes with the Devon ribbon (and maybe a little dog breed hangtag)
-Riding gloves embroidered with the Devon logo on the back
-Picture frames either with a small Devon logo plaque or maybe with the Devon grosgrain ribbon on them?
-Grooming tote gifts (either a wooden or plastic tote with a Devon logo plaque, filled with a baby blue hoof pick, a baby blue brush, and a small rub rag with the Devon logo?)

Thoughts on the above? Other ideas?!

I think they are all great, except the polos. Polos are so hit or miss on quality/bulk/pile/length/size. LOVE the idea of picture frames.

The polos sold pretty decently last year, so I am sure they're going to want to do them again. We got the Vac's ones from Dover. I wasn't involved with that decision and I didn't buy a set so I don't know how the quality is. I have a whole big box of polos and I NEVER use ANY of them. So I didn't add any to the collection.

I think the frames could be really cute and potentially inexpensive. And as far as I can tell, the Engraver only offers really simple frames and these could be more colorful/fun, so I'd think they would go over well.

I feel like horse clothing is too much of a hassle (carrying all the sizes), too expensive, and people already have and wouldn't buy. Is there anything else fun I am missing?

How about Christmas ornaments. A few years ago I bought a brass Christmas ornament there for a friend whose horse was showing. She loved it. I love to buy ornaments when I travel to remember places.

We always do handpainted x-mas globe ornaments. They are lovely. I can suggest brass ones as well.

Ok, so now that you appear to be miss head honcho in charge of exploiting the Devon Name and logo, maybe you can answer my questions about the trademark (Blue Horse).

It used to be registered in the U.S. and the registration died. Devon Hill BMW uses it, too, as does the town (I think). Are you or anyone you are working with in touch with someone that might have info about this? I would LOVE to be able to get trademark and licensing work from them!

Anyway - I think picture frames and baby pads ae a great idea.

Ha, I am so not a head honcho. Just grunt-assigned-to-horsey-items. :)

The show has had work done by DM before. Charlene negotiated a real estate contract for them and also did some ISBN work for the cookbook. I am not sure whether the show is the one who originally registered the logo, but it might be worth seeing if they're interested in pursuing that. I know just the attorney ;) shoot me an email vxf111 @ yahoo.com. I won't be seeing the "right" person in charge about that tonight, but I can call/email him later this week.

Another idea... plain white cotton ratcatchers with the Devon logo embroidered on in baby blue. Would eq riders buy those, you think?

I'd buy the ratcatcher if it was a quality 100% cotton shirt...

You think we could sell just the collars and not the shirts? On the theory that white is white and pretty much would match any other white shirt? If we get the shirts, then we have to worry about carrying a run of sizes, people likimng the style/cut, wanting to try on etc. I was thinking of JUST carrying the white collars. Do you think people would go for that?

I also liked the notepads tied with the grosgrain ribbon I bought last year. It was inexpensive and I use it daily. I would definitely buy more next year to use as gifts.

I wouldn't buy just a collar because it wouldn't match my shirts...maybe talk to Essex about making something up with baby blue trim at the cuffs as well? And a baby blue horse on the chest like a Polo shirt? That would be cute.
