*SIGH* Alas V, I do not share your addiction of self indulgence, but have one of my own. I am the biggest bit and blanket whore I know. I can't help but buy blankets every time there is a sale on the off chance that one may get destroyed, or the babies are growing donchaknow! I came to the realization that I had a problem when I was putting blankets away after spring cleaning. I attributed an entire room to hanging blankets. The room is in my hayloft and is 12 x 12. As I was hanging said clean blankets, I noticed a pile of brand new stillinthewrapper turnout sheets of varying sizes, and behind the opened door, there was another similar pile of stable blankets. The biggest problem is that they were from different shopping sprees - not like I knew I was out and bought a few extras. I am down three horses (sold four, one baby born) and still I am drawn to those blanket blowouts!!! I JUST started acquiring TO fly sheets as well - ugh!!! Now bits are a different type of addiction - first place I go in a tack store is the bit wall. If there is a bit I don't have, I MUST have it bacause you never know when you might need one of those!!! I am excited that my new jumper is allowing me to explore the more interesting bits in the never ending search for collection between the jumps an better brakes!!! She is a quirky mare and it can't be too much, but she will run right through a 3 ring. I do feel your pain!!! As far as clothes, I am still wearing the rags I have from the early 80s, but did break down and get two new coats last year. Edited by Yaksmom, Jul 1 2008, 10:46 PM.

Might I suggest a change of disciplines? Eventing people generally don't have many show coats. I, while not exactly the poster child for competition, have been wearing the same black wool coat for 15 years. I bought it at Beval's at a sale back in the last century and the thing is still kicking. No, I will not show you a photo. Please. I may be willing to embarrass myself in public more than the average person, but even I have limits. |

I am a huntcoataholic. I have 8 coats and 1 horse and NEVER stop shopping for the next one. Yep, a black one is next on my list too (oh, after the shad that I still haven't bought yet.) |

No No No RR.... Eventing leads to a whole other set of addictions. Before Mlle Bria arrived, I had been planning an event in July on the lease mare. (Had the purchase of Mlle Bria not drained my horse show fund, I would have tried to do both, but oh well!) For this I would have had (and this is a 3-dayer, even at BN/N) Day 1: My Pikeur dressage coat, dressage boots, and overall "rated dressage show" attire, right down to the blingy browband. Day 2: Burgundy and silver XC vest, royal blue and burgundy saddle pad, royal blue boots with burgundy tape (I was out looking for this!), burgundy shirt and navy blue breeches. And a browband with burgundy and royal blue beads (no sparkle, but beads nonetheless). Either my half chaps (leather and within the rules), or my hunt boots with the contrasting tops in, (of course!) burgundy. Day 3: Charcoal huntcoat and the lovely tan Pikeur breeches I bought when I was feeling sorry for myself about Fox and trying to get excited about showing over fences. Possibly my dressage shirt, but I don't know. The browband selection was still up in the air. My field boots with the coloured tops of course, and either a burgundy or square white pad. Sitting in back-up for Day 1 and 3 would be my Arista modern competitor jacket. I love that jacket. My coach loaths it ![]() Keep in mind all this stuff was bought on eBay! Before anyone comments on the browbands... a friend of mine is a jewlery designer, and she and I are getting the browband side of things going. So my matchy-poo browband predilitions are about business! Honest!

I won't throw rocks at you if you tell me where the fabric store is that you get said "any color" lightweight wool suiting material normally unavailable at chain fabric stores. I've been to Baer Fabrics in L'ville and they didn't have any. The only place I know of is a little place on Rte. 103(?) in Norwark, CT. Unfortunately, I live in Jacksonville now. Your karma might improve if you put one or two of your currently owned coats up for sale on the classifieds board! I have four coats, only one of which fits. After the last baby I never lost the weight. I would be in really big trouble if there were a lot of size 20 coats around. (That is 20 Grand Prix size, NOT American street size.) I would be in even more trouble if there were more 44 - 46 shirts. Because I would buy them, even though I can barely afford board and shoes now and the likelihood of going to a show where I need a coat is little to none. There may be a local show during the fall in my future if I can find a damn job. However, I did order a Myler combination bit the other day because it might just NOT be MY fault Nigel gets strong with me. Plus I do not have such a bit beast in my tack trunk. I do have a Mikmar pelham if anyone needs to complete a collection, though. The most I've paid for a set of horse shoes is about $375. For street shoes, I've never paid more than $100. Uh, besides my Danskos - I have pink, baby blue, apple green, and brown. Anyhow, they double as barn shoes. It's especially nice when they match your show shirt. I can't imagine paying $200 for a pair of street shoes! Can you imagine all the nice shoes I'd have if I took all the money I've spent on farriers my whole life and exchanged them for street shoes. And each pair would last more than a month and probably not get pulled off and lost in the mud. This is the reason I can't stop shopping. Hebron Harvest Fair 1979. Tube socks falling down, no elastics on jods, mom-made jacket (actually probably the best part). Edited by Mrs. Malcolm Darcy, Jul 2 2008, 01:32 PM.

Yes, but you do get to buy tack and outfits for three different phases. That is getting dangerously close to the back of the wagon ... |

Good grief. I had no idea. Imean, I do have a white saddle pad and velvet ASTM helmet for dressage and a black saddle pad, black vest and brain bucket for cross country, but that's about as far as it goes for little old moi. I will say that your blingy browbands have given me a smashing idea, though! I want to make a pearl browband for my cheeky pony! I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing this, and probably don't have enough pearls with me right now, but I can certainly gather them in the next year. So, any thoughts? Would your friend like to help me make one browband?? Edited by Reynard Ridge, Jul 2 2008, 03:31 PM.

Her daughter has a new shad, that she doesnt even know she owns, because my friend wont let her see it for fear that riding instructor will roll her eyes cause she really doesnt need it right now, lol. I have about a zillion coats and shirts and breeches, just bought a new shirt this past week, and Im not even showing at this point. |
