I only have one... which is a good thing, because I'm mostly a dressage rider. We really only jump at schooling shows. When I jumped. Now we're spending a lot of time lunging and walk-trotting at home. I need hunt coats for that right? Downside of dressage is lack of artistic expression in attire... I looooove pretty coats... |

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. We need a new hunt coat emoticon. Unfortunately my mother isn't adopting and seems to have had it with me and my expensive horse hobby, although I think I can get one hunt coat out of her If shopping vicariously will help you, I've been lusting after this coat: COAT ever since one of the posters here posted pictures of her in it. Wouldn't it look lovely on a light dapply grey? I am going to be getting my stimulus check in a week or two. Although I also have to buy ulcer meds.... decisions decisions ![]() But really I'm sorry you're having a tough time of it

Oh dear - my worst fears realized - many coats might be an illness but there is hope since others have it too......I don't think there is any help for it though since I am a firm believer in having lots of choices .......I mean its fine to have a coat or 2 or 3 to match the current horse that is showing (never mind that neither of them are at the moment and since both are different colors we are already up to 6 coats), its important to have additional coats to cover all color ranges -- what if (god forbid) you were to acquire ANOTHER horse of a different color? See you would HAVE to have appropriate coats to match. Or what if, not that this has happened often, but it could - someone asked you to catch ride a horse -- well you'd want a nice coat to match now wouldn't you??? I believe its best to be prepared for all possible scenarios - hence the need -- in fact - really the REQUIREMENT for multiple coats. And along similiar lines let us not forget that one needs not only different colors but different weights for different seasons, different sizes for those moments when your body swells a bit (probably due to weather and/or altitude not due to the steady diet of ice cream ), and different styles (for those dressage shows - ok so I don't do dressage - I might ......gotta be prepared) I say go forth and purchase yet another coat to hang in the closet and while you're at it - don't forget a shirt (or 2) to match!!!! When you think of it -- way cheaper than buying another horse for example, less caloric than the mountains of ice cream you could buy for the money and I think its awfully satisfying to squeeze yet another coat in the already stuffed coat bags (note: the plural coat BAGS!!!!! they don't like being all jammed together - so multiple coats = multiple bags Signed Card carrying member of the Coats of Many Colors Clique |

This is a test and only a test of the huntcoat owners broadcast.... What would you do question for mass quantity hunt coat owners..... So how many hunt coats does one put in their garment bag for a local show???

Hummmmmmm this could be one of those trick questions but I'll bite anyway -- lets see for a local show .....well there are considerations to be taken into account such as 1. Possible weather for the day - any chance of rain would require the not-so-nice coats to be used in case of rain (ditto if you live in area of potential snow, sleet or hail) 2. Possible temperature of the day -- again hotter temps will require lighter weight coats, cooler temps - a wool blend and cold - well time to break out the heavy weight ones (mind you this global warning means extra consideration must be taken when accounting for potential weather and/or temperature differences) 3. Rider's weight on the show day - once again perhaps requiring the slightly larger or smaller coat depending -- also take into account availability of decent horse show food (ok ok so I'm dreaming here) but if there are say, smoothie stands like at Deep Run and/or an ice cream social at show -- well I might go for slightly larger coat just to be safe -- after all - a coat bursting at its seams is not attractive 4. Color of horse. One might want to consider that if it rains and horse will darken well then you might want all possible coats to match 5. Potential of fall. Never like to think of it - but worst case, you have a fall and require another coat since the one you were wearing now has dirt on it. Likewise if you have a horse that likes to slime you, an extra coat may be needed 6. Potential of catch ride on different color horse. This is always an option and one wants to look nice especially on someone else's horse -- forget the ride, its all about the look : ) So after careful consideration of all the above, I'd have to say that I rarely leave the house for a local show without 5 coats in the bag. But then again I am a coat whore no doubt about it |

The enabler in me says you only have too many coats when you start feeling guilty about it. The practical side of me says you only need 2 or 3 The reality of me is that I have 7 coats (down from 8..I sold one!!!!!) ...and I only show about 5 times a year if I'm lucky. I haven't shown at all this year and may not. The worse part is that three coats were purchased while I had a broken arm and couldn't even try the suckers on. All three don't fit. (two needed to be shorts...who would've thought there was such a huge difference between regular and short...the other is the infamous TS I posted about elsewhere on the board). I did manage to sell one but the other two are hanging around. BTW, vxf111...I resisted the urge to purchase your current e-bay listing. for me because I am perilously close to the guilt stage.

For me, the hunt coat addiction has its roots in deep-seated childhood trauma. Back in the day, my ever-practical and cost-conscious mother would only allow my sister and me to have one coat each. My sister chose navy, I chose hunter green. I happily sported my hunter green/rust/brown field boot look until the big navy/dove gray look became the rage. Oh, how I longed for a navy hunt coat and black boots! Of course, the fact that my younger/thinner/blonder sister had one made it all that much more painful. *Sob* Alas, I bought my first (and second and third...) navy hunt coat as a re-riding adult. Of course, that doesn't explain the numerous gray and brown coats I own! |

Oh now JV, that does make me sad.You deserve a whole closet full of pretty hunt coats to make up for that fashion choice you had to lie with for years. If it makes you feel better, I was wearing the dove gray breeches LONG after they went out of style because I didn't know any better

VFX111 I think it is very clear. You need to buy another horse, of a totally different color then the three you already have. That way, you could buy more hunt coats, to match the new horse, plus that new horse could be your back up horse #2, to the backup horse #1. Simple

I like your way of thinking, Veronica! You too, Lawndart! Nothing like a little enabling to get us through these trying times. Look---I found a photo of my snazzy hunter green/rust. In a time when rust is a cool vintage/retro look, it doesn't look so bad! Damn, I miss my velvet hunt cap!

JV, you look mad cool. Everything old is new again, I am currently trying to amass a very similar outfit :):) I think Lawndart, you're right. I am thinking black next. I am thinking Lynlee's black tie foal. Now I just need to win the lottery. If I do, new show coats for ALL of us!

Ok...I have to chime in. I think I need the most therapy! I have 16 coats. I do ride for a living and I do tell myself that you "must" have coats to match every possible color horse. That is how I justify my sickness. |

Hey coat ho's --> get thyselves over and look at my three ladies hunt coats. Purchased new $199.95 plus tax. Make me an offer, its depressing to look at it in my closet..... it is way too small for me now that I have been on shift work, and since I am not going to be getting off of shift work, I don't see loosing the weight..... http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/ncsuacd/TWCNAVYCOAT.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/ncsuacd/TWCCoatliner.jpg * RJ Classics Childrens Navy coat, new with tags 10R. New with tags, bought it on sale for 140.00 Navy with lighter navy pinstripe, navy lining. Very classic and correct. Just didn't fit the intended recipient! http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/ncsuacd/221RJCOAT.jpg Tailored Sportsman Size 10/16R. (which I think means its actually a street size 10R - fits the same as the RJ coat). Gibson Window Pane. Olive colored with light blue/apricot windowpane. Gorgeous. Purchased for $399.00 Make an offer. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/ncsuacd/COATS.jpg Closeup: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/ncsuacd/COATS2.jpg RJ Classic Platinum- Size 10R, also fits like a street size ten- Super 120s - Dark blue with a cranberry fine window pane.
