I did a show in Bronxville, NY years ago and it was around 100 and humid....I thankfully rode first thing in the morning but my horse (and I) were just dripping with sweat. and this was in the big eq, so full long sleeved shirts (gotta have that little bit of cuff showing), wool jacket etc. .We'd basically sponge down the horses between classes....it was yucky to the max

I've shown when it's been 97( very humid on top of it...don't know what the heat index would've been). My shirt was ringing wet, soaked clear through my jacket(gross). I came close to passing out. I remember being dizzy and weak after my class, I went back to the tack room and laid down on a trunk. Thank god a friend saw how red my face was and poured some water over my head, I was beginning to black out. That was not fun.

That day, on the way home from the show, I put my saddle in the trunk. Apparently, it was so hot back there, it warped the seat of my saddle. It was left with permanent indentations in the seat... :pissed: . Ever since then, the saddle rides up front in the air conditioning! I didn't know that they can "melt."

I guess I'm blessed in that I rarely feel the heat. I was showing at loudoun and all these people's numbers were falling apart from sweating through their jackets and my shirt was barely wet.

With that said, Upperville, far and away takes the cake over the course of many years as the hottest horse show on the earth. That and probably July/August Culpepers with their killer horse fly population.

Culpeper last July was unbearable. I'm not usually one to take off my coat or be too much of a sweater, but I actually had to one of the days. It must have been over 100 degrees. I sweat through my Coolmax shirt!

Ive shown on pretty hot days, but what I remember the most is showing when it was 7 oustide and there was ice on the top of the mountain as we were driving over to lexington. They allowed us to show in our winter jackets. It was so cold.

I would have loved an air conditioned potty! One thing about the portable toilets is they are so hot that when you come out the air seems so much cooler! :innocent:
You should have seen the lot of us in there shaking our heads going we don't want to leave the port a potty... All shows should look into these things because they are way better then the standard portapottie for sure!!!

It would have to be the 2 weeks in KY last August. The first week was in the upper 90's with high humidity and in the 100's the second week! The occasional afternoon thunderstorm couldn't put a dent in it! It just seemed to make it steamier! But my horse was quiet with no prep! :one:

I can't remember the HOTTEST show... but I DEFNATELY can remember the COLDIST show!!!! Elmington January or February something! There were wind gusts up to 56mph. And when I was taking my boots off in the car, I dropped the boot jack on my foot and I couldn't feel it! :sigh: the cold days....

Ugh, I remember chasing Medals and Maclays (back when you had to win them, nothing else counted) in New England in the 80s. There was one show that was so cold, I felt it in my chest. I couldn't breathe, and I felt like my heart was just going to seize up into a big red ice cube. Is it any wonder that I moved to Zone 3 for college and never went back? :shoot:

Of course, now I find (as I enter the fourth decade of my life) that I can't handle the heat, either. As one of my co-workers so sagely noted, sometimes moving to the mean isn't the ideal. :mallet:
