So it was Beastchild's first show of the year (for various reasons) and they - she and Jake - were Beginner Rider Reserve Champion!

It all started with the day before, scrambling to find boots that would fit  . Last year's wouldn't zip over her calf, so I was going to loan her my old Vogels (that I still am wearing until my new ones are broken in - I didn't have to ride many, so I was going to suck it up and wear the new ones). Problem was that my old pair only have a zipper on one boot - long story short, I added a zipper to one when I had a blood clot in that leg and needed another 1/4 inch added - Beastie has an extremely high instep and couldn't get her foot through the ankle. So she HAD to wear her winter Rimfrost boots as her brand new, year old, 1/2 chaps are unacceptable to her.

Breeches don't fit either, so mom pulls out an old pair so as to not ruin her good ones. Shirt is tight, but OK, so figure the jacket will work.

When we were about half way to the show, I asked her if she had remembered her Ritalin -- silence... She only takes it on school days and show days, when she needs help focusing. We get to the show, and mom gets on first to make sure Jake is in a happy place, but not too happy. As I am loping around, Beastie shows up with a frown - can't get her coat buttoned!!!

Here she is with my coat, my belt (she forgot hers), my gloves, my Hairnet (also forgot hers), my breeches, and my old saddle.

She also forgot to take off her martingale AS she was going in the ring for her flat classes, so mom quick tied it up - it was a schooling show, and I witnessed FAR more fashion faux pas than that.

She won the Pleasure class, and was fifth (out of 10) in the Eq flat. Third in the first OF class, the second class was Jakes bad lead (he swaps easily when not in snail crawl mode, but that was not to be) and they were fourth, then rallied and were second in the third OF class! Jake was as perfect as he could have been and her confidence was boosted 100%.

Then they got to hang out until everyone else was done - Jake loves her!

Being the mother of a child who is ADHD who also has an anxiety disorder is difficult enough, then put mom in trainer shoes.... I have to make sure I take my patience pills when she shows. I would send her off with another trainer, but right now, we are working through some fear issues from a horse bolting on her, and I don't wish one of her meltdowns on anyone.

Even with all of the tension and "I forgot's", I was thrilled with how well she handled the stress, and her sportsmanship was exemplary. I am kind of glad that she is used to not winning, because it makes it that much better when she does!!!

And I think you'd better guard your closet until she grows some more, b/c she looks pretty good in your show clothes! :teehee:

They look great! Jake really does look like a wonderhorse. So cute.

And about the ADHD thing... I actually married a man with a pretty severe case of it. What the heck was I thinking? Fortunately for him and for me, I'm incredibly calm and patient and can deal with just about anything. Anyone else would have killed him by now. I also really like chestnut TB mares, so I guess I actually like strife and drama.

LOL Witchy!!! I have stated that my mares have prepped me for motherhood!!!

No worries on the closet invasion as I am a pastel kinda girl, and Beastchild is into black and red!!! Although some of my cool belts do wander off sometimes. Now that her ears are pierced, all of my real earings have gone in the safe.

Oh, and she is only 12. I am in sooooo much trouble!!! The reason her coat didn't fit is more because of her developing pectoral area than anything else :argh: .

She takes Zoloft for the anxiety, which helps IMMENSELY - her meltdowns at school were escalating physically, and when she (inadvertantly) decked the principal in third grade, we decided that therapy just wasn't cutting it and we needed to do more. I finally got hubby on board when I convinced him that she has a chemical imbalance in her brain - he is a scientist, so that worked.

I wish she were a little more committed, but I won't force her to ride. She does know that she needs to ride enough to earn the privelidge of showing.
