So the farm that I board at hosted a little schooling dressage show yesterday. I figured I would do it just for fun. I had never done a dressage test before but figured it can't be too hard. We did a fairly basic test, not very demanding. My horse warmed up like you wouldn't believe. He was seriously amazing warming up and I figured I had it nailed...so then we entered the ring. Turns out those letters with the flowers on top are going to eat you. My horse was horrible and we managed to somehow find our way through the test in an interesting fashion. All of our comments from the judge involve the fact that he spooked at EVERY letter. It made me laugh though and because of this, he has to do the next dressage show in July and will keep doing them until we can behave ourselves. We actually won our class, but only because there were 2 of us and the other person must have been really, really bad because we were pretty horrible! It was entertaining though and we stuck out like a sore thumb with the only brown tack and jumping saddle there. There are pictures which are pretty entertaining as they sum up how the ride went. http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?e=3874594&g=0QQ2000M0H Edited by onwego, Jun 15 2008, 03:21 PM.

onwego, I've never done a dressage test, but the photos look pretty darned good to me, no evidence of a spook in what I saw! Your horse looks attentive and on the bit, and you look terrific! Good for you!!!!

Too funny! I remember my first dressage schooling show when I was a teenager. My horse was just coming back from an injury and was very fresh. He performed amazing feats of airs above the ground throughout the entire test. The judge's comments mainly focused on my surprising ability to remember the test despite my horse's best efforts to dump me. That's awesome that you did it. I'd love to dabble in dressage again at some point! Cool! |
